Hi guys,

My desktop PC is down and looks like the MoBo is the issue. I didn't have time to get it fixed as have been very busy with work. This is the thread that I had posted sometime back thinking PSU was the problem.

http://www.techenclave.com/pc-peripherals/suggestion-needed-on-psu-193633-2.html

Also I've been using the machine for 4 years now, so time to update it. I will be reusing (if possible) some of the components. Please advice me on some decent configuration

Q: What is your budget?
15-20K

Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)?

From Siggy:
Intel C2D E6550 | MSI 8800GT 512MB | LG L226WTQ 22 inch | Intel DG33FB | Kingston 800 Mhz (2x1GB + 1x2GB) | CoolerMaster 600w + Corsair CX 430 | Western Digital 250 GB, Seagate 160 GB | LG H10N | Altec Lansing AVS 300B

Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)?

MSI 8800GT 512MB | LG L226WTQ 22 inch | Kingston 800 Mhz (2x1GB + 1x2GB) (DDR2 I believe) | CoolerMaster 600w + Corsair CX 430 | Western Digital 250 GB, Seagate 160 GB | LG H10N | Altec Lansing AVS 300B

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

Need a good proccy, MoBo, 200 GB HDD should suffice, RAM if needed, Blue Ray player? :P

Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

Final for now.. Might get a Full HD 24" Monitor maybe next year. Not planning to do anything with the CPU though.

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
S.P Road, Bangalore

Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
No

Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
Watching HD Movies, Browsing, Photoshop, WCS Toolkit, Websphere Server, Gaming a bit

Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
Nothing as such.

Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?

Crysis. Will not be playing much as have 360 for that. Also having 8800GT which should be sufficient I suppose

Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage

Gaming 1920x1080
Current monitor resolution - 1680*1050

Q: Are you looking to overclock?
No

Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks in advance for any help.

For your RIG I would suggest --

AMD A8-3850 ~ 7000/-

Gigabyte GA-A75-D2H ~ 6500/-

Corsair 4GB x 1 ValueRAM 1333MHz CL-9 ~ 1700/- [DDR II RAM is hardly used by any current generation chips, except AMD 760G which are EoL]

NZXT Gamma ~ 2100/- + 2 x 120mm Cooler Master R4's ~ 600/- [as the NZXT Gamma doesn't come with a lot of fans you need to invest some cash to get a good airflow set-up]

Use your Corsair CX 430W SMPS to power this set-up.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB ~ 1850/- [not worth going for capacities lesser than this the price / capacity is useless]

If you want an Intel alternative go for the --

Intel Core i3 2100 ~ 5500/-

Any compatible H67 chip-set motherboard ~ 6500/-

[rest configuration same as above]

Blue Ray internal / external drives are still to expensive to warrant a purchase ~ 7000/-.

NZXT cabinets are available only at Golccha computers, S.P. Road.

If you wish to source components from a online retailer -- TE dealer, SMC International has some spiffy deals available in the Dealer's Paradise (here is the link) -- http://www.techenclave.com/smc-internl/amd-llano-msi-a75ma-g55-4gb-195084.html / http://www.techenclave.com/smc-internl/smc-launches-amd-llano-series-apu-194192.html#post1868535.

Thanks ALPHA17.

What about getting a core i5 2400/2500 and a H67 Mobo? Also Blu Ray drive was a good to have, not a must to have and considering the prices I'm dropping it :)

^^ Since you have a 8800GT, then I think this set-up will be better --

Intel Core i5 2400 ~ 9500/-

ASUS P8H67-M PRO B3 OR Intel BOXDH67BL B3 ~ 7500/- OR 5200/-

Corsair XMS3 2GB x 2 1600MHz CL-9 ~ 3000/- [a single 4GB XMS3 key costs ~ 2500/-, you can get the G.Skill RIPJAWS kit if XMS3 is not available in 2 x 2GB format]

[rest of configuration same as above AMD Llano]

Hope this helps.

^^ Oh Lord, DarkAngel Sir if you don't stand to correct me, I'll keep publishing stuff like crazily inflated prices.

^RAM prices has crashed in the last 4 weeks. Its so volatile that i had to keep checking the websites once every 4-5 days! But as I said rest of the config pricing is in line with market though. Decent rig.

Also please dont call me sir. I am no sir :P
