or ASUS A8N32SLI @ 14000 Rs
PSU : Skyhawk 640w @ 5000 Rs
GPU : Leadtek 7600 GT 256 @ 12500 Rs
or 2nd hand evga 7800GT @ 15000 Rs

Config is great... Check out the market section. Couple of opty's on sale and A8N32 SLi is being sold at great price by Darklord. Pm him.

Yup Dark is selling his Opteron 170+TT BTfor 20K(linkkk, get it as he has guaranteed a speed of 2.8. If your gonna OC like crazy i would get a DFI. DFI are absolutely great for OCing. They can go upto 310+FSB, so u wont have prob getting ur opty to 2.8 with that cooling.

As for the GPU i would get a 2nd hand 7800GT, the 7600GT wont provide u much performance increase from wht u have (6600GT).

@pixel,

i would say that if u are neither an AMD nor an INTEL fanboi :ohyeah: and are the best-bangs-for-the-buck kinda guy, just save up on some more cash and wait for 1-2 months for the INTEL CONROE to arrive. this is what i have been saying to everyone who is going for a new uber rig right now spending lotsa cash on it, just when the release of this beast is around the corner. why not spend the booty :D on something faster and better. but just as always, just my two cents.

@Josh : thnx.. i know this config roxx :D

@shado_chazzer_killer : was thinking of that.. the 7800GT

@mav3r1ck : ur right on mate, the problem is i have some cash saved up right now, but i will spend it on something else if its kept too long.. lol.. the new intel Conroe is going to be expensive and so is the AM2 .. am i right?? expecting the processor to cost somewhere in the 30k + bracket..

I'm also sellin my old rig and will need that cash to buy my gpu :D

thnx for all ur help guys..keep the suggestions pouring in..

~cheers

The top priced Conroe that will be released in July (2.67Ghz) should cost around 25000 according to the prices given for the US market :D The EE is likely to be released too but no confirmations on this and should cost around $900. That's cheaper then an Athlon FX -60.:hap2: :(

hmm.. i do not think that i will go back to intel, pretty much happy wid AMD :D

@pixel, just read this (source theinquirer.net)

"The E6700, which is a 2.67GHz chip with 4MB of cache and a 1066 front side bus will cost $529 while the E6600, a 2.40GHz version will cost $315. The other two members of the Intel Cointreau family have 2MB of cache apiece, with the E6400 (2.13GHz) costing $240, while the E6300 (1.86GHz) will cost $210."

and if u are an overclocker, some more good news (source gamespot.com)

"The conroe core is based on a 65nm process, as well, which will allow for some serious overclocking. In fact, with a good motherboard, chipset, and memory, you should be able to overclock the E6300 to around 2.5ghz. That should be more than a match for the $1000 FX-60, and it will only cost you $210 at launch."

"it would be safe to assume that at least a 50% overclock is achievable on all Conroe cores. That means that the $210 E6300 should be able to overclock to 2.7ghz, which is actually faster than the Conroe core that beat the FX-60. On the same page, the Core Duo from Intel did the same test in just over 17 seconds, which broke the world record set by a 7.2ghz Pentium 4. The core duo was clocked at 3.4ghz, and still wasn't as fast as a 3.16ghz Conroe. I don't know how Yonah cores compare to K-8s, but I'd bet it's safe to assume that a $210 E6300 overclocked to 2.5ghz or more can beat anything you can buy for your PC today. The future is looking very bright for PC users"

obviously u are the one who decides and spends, just make sure u spend it wisely.

Agrees with you completely..:cool2:

I wonder how much time Intel took to create such a micro processor. They must have started working on this when they saw AMD starting to take there market share(maybe 3years). They kept quiet without anyone knowing whts they were planing behind the curtains. Then they suddenly opened everything. Damn Intel is Great. But i wonder AMD will be doing the same. who knows

Dude, seriously.

Save up that money.

The Processors arent gonna cost a bomb. Itll infact be cheaper than what the P4's launched at.

Seriously reconsider, and wait for Conroe!

@mav3r1ck :the e6300 a sub 9k processor dual core n kicks a$$ :D pretty neat..the e6700 and e6600 with 4mb of cache should really rock.. and decently priced at 23k and 18.8k respectively..

geez im thoroughly confused.. but the price in india will b easily another +3-5k on each processor..

Amd Opteron 165 or Wait...

arrrrrh

The rig you have built isn't value for money from gaming point of view.

You will be disappointed by a 7600GT, it isn't all that great, do you want to run FEAR at 1024*768, maxed out, no softshadows,no aa /af, are you looking forward to running MW at 1024*768, no aa/af at the very max?

Here is your modified version

Processor : AMD Opteron 146/148

Mobo : Asus A8N E or other cheaper boards that come for 7-8k, or increase your budget

PSU : Antec SL 450 or SL500 for about 4-5k

Leadtek/XFX 7900GT or 7900GTX

I am sure the card can handle both the games at the quality levels&resolution u have mentioned albeit a lil' bit of jerky gameplay (not too sure) .

but its better go with a second hand 7800GT :) .

@techboy : my current rig is pretty decent.. 3500 + Newcastle 64bit, Asus a8v deluxe 2, 1gig corsair paired ram 512 x 2, 250x2 Sata Western digital,inno3d nvidia geforece 6600gt 128mb DDR3

@broar94 : 7800gt and 7900gt, brand new price difference is just 100rs .. 20400 and 20500.. gettin a second hand for 15k mostly

my suggestions for u :

1.Stick with the current rig .. sell only the mobo,gpu and psu.

2. buy a new/used pci-e mobo.

3. buy a used/new good gpu.

4. buy a used/new good psu.

the gpu and psu that u will buy now can surely be used with conroe or am2 and they wont need changing. so its a long term investment.

and no use changing the proccy now .. a 3500+ is very very neat. try overclocking it. buy a decent mobo for it and it ll oc easily and perform at par to a 165.

@mohit : thanks for the suggestions mate!.. makes sense waiting for the conroe/am2.. but they are going to launch around the end of July.. so we can expect it to come here in aug.. aug end..

like you mentioned my 3500+ can perform at par with a opty dual core 165 ..are u sure?? i doubt.. i think Dual-Core is DUAL-CORE.. my 3500+ is a Newcastle.. havent tried o/c it yet..

I may or may not wait.. hmmm this is a tough 1..

~cheers

^^i meant perfomance equality between a 165 and a 3500+ can be achieved in present games .. since none of the games are optimized for dual core processors.

so again an overclocked 3500+ = opty 165/170 in gaming.

:)

correct me if i am wrong guys.

@mohit : i suppose..then it really doesnt make sense changing my rig?!

confused again!

^^get a pcie mobo , pcie card , psu , gpu ..later on when u want to switch to am2 / conroe u can just sell off ur mobo+procc+ram as a bundle.

or if u can just hold on for 2 months or so with this rig .. then u can change everything together dude.

in any case atleast buy a psu now. a good one. antec neo he will survive for a long time. go for it.
