^^i meant perfomance equality between a 165 and a 3500+ can be achieved in present games .. since none of the games are optimized for dual core processors.

so again an overclocked 3500+ = opty 165/170 in gaming.

:)

correct me if i am wrong guys.

Wrong :bangin: a 3500+ cant be OCed as much as 165. Actually a 2.65ghz OCed opty 165 give almost similar results as a FX60 (Read this). The one Dark's selling has a guarrentee of 2.8ghz that would prob be much faster then a FX60. On the other hand a OCed 3500+ cant even come closer to a FX60

i think u should nt change ur proccy, get that dfi ultra d, and a 7900gt.

and shift platforms when we see wha AM2 and conroe hv got.

wha say????

Yup hummer is right. get a 165+DFI UltraD=Greatest combo ever to be found and a 7900GT n get urself a highend gaming pc that will last ur 1.5 years.

btw have i told ya darky is selling his 170+TT bt for 20K. Get it, the TT bt is impossible to find in India n is the best Air cooler ever made and u get a 170 @ price of 165.

that gaming rig won't last 1.5yrs, but maybe almost a yr or at least a good 6 months

second it won't be high end but extreme mainstream, games like oblivions you may be playing at 1024*768

All depends on stepping... a good stepping will give u insane overclocks. Get a bad stepping and reaching 2.2 might get difficult. Blindly buying the first 165 you can find is a sure shot recipe for disaster.

when did i say that an oced opty 165 will give similar perfomance to a 3500+ ???

all i said was this,
Code:
an overclocked 3500+ = opty 165/170 in gaming

hope u get it now.

i was not comparing the overclocking potential of an opty with a 3500+. and maybe in gaming only .. a stock 3500+ will perform equally good as a stock 165/170 .. since none of the games use dual core optimizations yet.

Ohhhh I got it, Sorry for that :ashamed:

But a Stock 3500+ will perform better then a Opty 165 due to its higher clock speeds. Once OCed the 165 really start to shine.

I still say hang on to your money. There's no point waiting for either AM2 or investing in a 939...they'll be nothing in front of Conroe:ohyeah: :bleh: :hap2: :cool2:  . And anywyz AM2 launches 2morrow:ohyeah: . Hang around for 2-3days atleast see some reviews and then decide. AM2 is only good for a platform change and nothing more. So unless ... like me:( ...you're having no choice but to buy now then DON"T buy.:hap2:

opty 165 and 170.. are there a particualr stepping i should be looking out for? any recommendations from where i should buy?

i dunt wanna get bummed at 2.2 though i wudnt exceed it.. it wud be nice to know ur cpu can do a good 2.6 ~ 2.8 :D

@rahulbk : cool i had no idea AM2 was launching tmrw.. but that would mean i would have to wait atleast a month for AM2 to come in2 the indian market
was wondering.. with my current budger of say around 30k odd, i would not manage a conroe the 300$ one + a really good board ?

i say dont upgrade wait forconroe ur well set off with tht6600gt for 6 months down the line...
only for one or two games u dont wanna spend a whole lot cash .. wait my dear frnd.

Yea i was surprised too when i heard about AM2. AMD changed the release date to May23rd for some reason:huh: (Conroe maybe....... :cool2: ). The other bit of news is that Windows Vista might be delayed back to the January timeframe:( . So'll DX10....so basically nVidia and ATI...who've been holding back thier products for the launch of DX10 it seems...:( will probably release DX10 capable cards within the next 1-2 months:hap2: :ohyeah: . Probably with Conroe....so wait 2 months Atleast....you'll get a gr8 deal and i'm nearly certain that with the immense amount of Power needed to run DX10 games that even the budget GFX cards of the next series from ATI and nVidia will be faster then the 7900GT's and all......:hap2: :ohyeah:  ;)

well then, i suppose its worth the wait.. now that i know the nxt gen gfx cards are gonna come as well.. 2months aint that bad.. but i really really hope its all priced well..

Good to hear. I didnt even knew that AM2 was going to be launched in 2 days
So this AM2 proccessors be using 35watts of power as AMD current plans.

  Aditya read my post again. I implied that since DX10 has been delyaed the companies have no more reason to wait for so long and SHOULD release thier cards soon. I wasn't saying i've got confirmed dates or wutever...:P :)

Anywyz even if they're NOT released the prices of the cards will go down overtime so waiting for Conroe...one way or the other....will be a good thing.
As for the 35w thermal envelope that AMD has said...that's not going to happen. AMD is releasing 2 seperate designs of the same processors(I've no idea how:huh: ) One of which is a low TDP design and should cost a little more then the regular versions which will be within a 65w thermal envelope like the Conroe.
The dual cores will be using this:@ and the single cores will all be in the lower TDP.
eXtreme OuterVision :: eXtreme PSU Calculator
Check it out over here....The TDP for the AMD AM2's has been listed too.

Thats what you said....

I know what i said:) . And as you can see i ever put a fixed date or anything. I'm just saying that they'll PROBABLY release the GPU's not saying that they've decided to do so within the next 2 months. Wether people trust my judgement or want to speculate or debate with me on what i've said is thier choice. Doesn't mean i can't say what i think does it?? And incase of a misunderstanding for others like you:S :S i'm Clearly saying here that those are what i THINK not confirmed statements so please don't take them otherwise:no:

EDIT:Moderators can you please add the above bold statement to the post in question. I don't want others to get the wrong ideas;)
