Suggestions require: How to master XBOX360 controller on pc for shooter games?

I have buy recently xbox controller for pc to play f1 2010; but now i tried to play gears of war with controller on pc; but found very difficult to aim... how to master that... also i wonder how people play on xbox and ps3 shooter games? I have not played on any console yet!!
 
1st point - the most foolish thing to do, buy a PC (which has mouse and keyboard btw FYI), and then like a ....*&^%head try to use a controller for FPS games, and then, wait for it.......the best yet...........complain here about the horrible comtrols...

can i say, WTF?
 
^ Not exactly. FPS with a controller isn't that black and white as you have described. There is plenty of middle ground. Depends on lot of things.

@ashu, It takes practice. Give it time.It takes practice. Take a game, and while you are in it, aim to any non moving thing (like Tree, a block of tile, etc) and keep practicing. First shoot it while running left and right.. later trying to shoot the target while jumping.. now mix the three.. moving+jumping+aiming. It takes time to get used to it. Play around with Triggers sensitivity settings until you feel comfortable with them. I know some will mock you for playing a FPS game on PC with Controller. personally, I play with both. Controller will be extremely useful when I want to just lay back and have fun. But, it is a nice little qualification in your gaming profile.. being able to blaze enemies with a controller.

I remember playing Halo 3 on Xbox360 long time back and it took me almost half of that game (and its not so short a game) to get used to the controller and aiming and moving around with those sticks. :S
You just need to practice. :)

But I guess for FPS, mouse is best as its very easy. :P

These controllers are excellent for games like Street Fighter, Tekken, and even Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed (mouse+keyboard combo really sucks at those) :cool2:

I also remember pressing so many buttons on the keyboard simultaneously while playing games like POP.

Also as vamsi_krishna said, it'll add a new experience in your gaming (although I'd suggest using a mouse if you're planning to play multiplayer FPS), while you can just lay back and game!
You don't need to listen to or care about anyone who tries to mock you!

@ashu: Its not very difficult to master the x360 controller for fps games. It just takes practice. But if you are gonna play multiplayer fps than use the mouse without question.
After the initial stages of GOW, you will get used to it.
 
yeah practice is the key , also you can try decreasing the sensitivity of controller.

and @comp@ddict , he is asking about gears of war here thats not an FPS !!
If you ask me i would prefer playing Gears of war with a controller rather than Mouse and keyboard.( nothing against K&M here just that controller feels better with GeOW )
 
you are finding GeOW difficult to play with controller :S. GeoW is best experienced with the controller. All Third person games are best experienced with Xbox 360 controllers. FPS games suck with any controller.

You need a lot of practice, that's all.
 
I have played a shit load of FPS and TPS titles over the past year and a half using the 360 controller. In games like Call of Duty, the aiming is very fluid as the frame rates and sensitivity are balanced. I rely on strafe shooting at times. It helps when you're using a Sniper scope and can't aim the reticule in a proper manner. A large number of console game allow auto-aim feature and that always tends to dumb down the level of your skills. Although, I admit I had to use this feature in Red Dead Redemption and Episodes from Liberty City, since aiming distant enemies proved to be very difficult in these games. Always relax your thumbs when using the analog sticks. Get the feel of the sensitivity in any game before you begin and adjust it to your convenience from the controls option. In Gears of War, cover and shoot mechanism plays a very important role. In a close combat, you can use your Lancer's melee attack and tear those Locust horde a new one. The sensitivity in the game was just perfect, from what I remember. Also I assume you are zooming in with your weapon, when you shoot. Blind fire is seldom useful. The more you play using the controller, the more you get used to it.

I still remember my first horrible experience using the controller for an FPS game on a console. It was BLACK on the PS2. Games back then didn't feature health re-generation and I wasn't very used to the PS2 controller, in terms of FPS or even TPS gaming. So I ditched the whole idea and moved on with other controller friendly games. But with the advent of the 360 controller and it's shooter friendly design, I don't think it gets any better than this. You'll do fine, just keep playing.
