Superfast dual core Android in 20K

Put in pretty much everything in the title :)

This is for my friend for whom I had bought an Atrix. Unforuntately, the Atrix has been misbehaving for him (shuts down randomly) and he is pissed. However, he has got used to the Atrix's superfast experience, something which I haven't found on a lot of Android phones TBH.

So now he needs to get another Android.

1. Q: Budget?
20,000. Preferably lower, but 20.5 is the upper limit :)

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?
None, just should not be very bulky

3. Q: Preferred display type?
Big and comfortable :p

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
Should be from a 'reputed' mobile brand

5. Q: Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?
Touchscreen

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.[/B]
Frequent usage of camera. MP doesn't matter, picture quality does.

7. Q: Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
DUAL CORE Android

8. Q: Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).
Everything that's expected from a high end phone

9. Q: What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?
Camera, mails and browsing

10. Q: Any other requirements?
Has to be superfast. Atleast as fast as the Atrix. I assume that means we need a dual core :)
The guy is not into modding, so it has to be fast out of the box.
Open to buying from US also. Model should not have any known major issues.

11. Q: If you have already considered a phone then please mention the model.
He likes the Photon and Atrix 2. I also have the LG Thrill in mind. How is the Google Nexus S?

Nexus S is good, but very difficult to find. Galaxy R was available for 22k. Check if its available. Also, Optimus 2X is going at around 18-19k on Ebay, so check it out.

EDIT: Also, Nexus S is single core. Galaxy R, Atrix 2, Optimus 2X and one Micromax are dual cores and cost below 25k.

My mistake. I must have confused the Nexus with Nexus S. Nexus is dual core I believe.

How does Galaxy R compare to the Galaxy family of phones? Is it a worthy upgrade over the Galaxy S?

^Think of Galaxy R as a something in between S and S2. Though its more closer to S2 when it comes to power. It has 5 MP cam with LED Flash, Dual core processor, Tegra 2 gpu, 1 GB RAM, AMOLED 4 inch screen. The phone is good, but since Optimus 2X is for only around 18k, its better option.
And there is no Nexus. There are 3, Nexus One, Nexus S and the latest Galaxy Nexus.

OK, I was talking about Galaxy Nexus. I just got the name all wrong :D

I did mention the O2X to my friend, but he isn't comfortable spending so much on an 'LG'.

Does Galaxy R come with an AMOLED? I see only SLCD displays. What is the model number?

I wouldn't recommend LG O2x. the stock rom is pretty laggy. its good if you mod it but since your friend isn't going to do that, Galaxy R is a good choice. Also, there were some good deals on Sony phones on ebay.com. they aren't dual core but their interface is quite zippy.

The Galaxy R seems to be a good piece. Now I need to find good deals. Any catch with this device? Looks too good honestly :p

Since getting phones from US is not a problem you can try for photon, Htc Amaze or even HTC Vivid.

I am a little sceptical about the HTC's due to their poor radio and battery. I have had a pretty bad experience with the Desire HD. Do the Amaze and Vivid have any such issues? I am Googling up meanwhile :)

^ Not much of a deterrent in that case as the guy won't go beyond stock firmware.

Guys, I checked the HTC Vivid, Amaze and the Galaxy Nexus. Goes way beyond budget :) Particularly Galaxy Nexus is crazily priced. I guess the no-contract thing is killing it

LG Optimus 2X:

- 8MP camera

- Full HD Video Recording

- ICS Upgrade both from LG and as Cyanogen Mod 9

- Cheaper (INR 17,990 from ebay, INR 18,990 from Letsbuy)

Galaxy R:

- Less laggy on stock ROM

- No confirmed ICS upgrade

- Inferior Camera

- Much higher price tag(21k)

I think the pros of LG O2X are just too big(and cons of Galaxy R) to ignore.

The LG is looking tempting now. I need to put some sense into the guy's mind. Let me do some brainwashing. Can't be so stupid to leave something just because it is 'LG'. Even Micromax gets more attention than this

Yeah, every review of Optimus 2X says that it lags for no reason at all.
Not very sure about this.. The stock froyo ROM after all LGs random reboot fixes was quite good.. I didn't find it to be laggy.. Even after the GB update, the phone is pretty good.. IMHO its the best bang for buck dual core phone out there.. Stable ROM, decent UI (put custom launchers if you dont like LGs UI), terrific dev support if you want to put custom ROM (Modaco was very stable for me), and LG has promised ICS update as well..

I bought the O2X knowing fully that the stock ROM was pretty awful, but decided to buy it because of the dev support. Learned more about android and rooting thanks to the phone.. ;)

Galaxy r available for less than 21k at ngpay

It will take some time to get support...

And also samsung will have to update atleast once...i.e 2.3 to 4.0

this is a coincidence..

i had an atrix .. used it for a coupla moonths before it got stolen a few days back... loved the phone.. plus motorola large screens arent so common in india yet... every person and his dog has a galaxy or iphone now.. i used to have an iphone but the small screen and apples restrictions just annoyed the hell outta me..

in the same dillema as you as to what to get... i was thinking the droid razr but that works out too expensive.. ive got myself the photon.. should arrive in a few days .. specs look awesome .. pretty similar to the orginal atrix .. just a slightly bigger screen.. atrix 2 is pretty much teh same as photon .. however the photon does have wimax.. which i think reliance intends to launch nxt year .. lets see..

the only drawback i can think off.. is moto hasnt announced if it will do an ics update for the photon.. inspite of the fact that ht ehone was launched in july end... the atrix 2 will be getting the update.. even the original atrix is not confirmed for the update...

so figure that before u make a decision..

my point being in a similar circumstance as yours .. i went for the moto photon :D

I searched a bit more and looks like the Atrix is the most popular and hot favourite of the dual core Androids. Is that so, or am I missing something here?

I tried convincing my friend about LG, he simply isn't interested. He also wants something like @domeshm mentioned - an exclusivity factor. Galaxy range is pretty common, so that is ruled out. Heck, with all those eliminations I guess only Atrix and its sibling will be present.
