Surge protection - Belkin is still the best option?

Using Belkin surge protectors (that extension) for the last 10 or 15yrs. Works great and saved equipment from lightning/surge more than once.

Checking whether that is the only brand trustworthy or there are others which we can rely on.

Basically for computers, monitor, modem, mobile phones, dry box etc.

I am using GoldMedal extensions 3 of them actually in my house & at my parents house since last 10 years and its great. BTW I am using this: Goldmedal Essenza Plugged-in 4x1 Power Strip

Don't think this offer any surge protection.
Then I think going with Belkin 6-socket is the way to go. There is not much price difference between 4-socket Vs. 6-socket just Rs.9 only. Link: Belkin 6-Socket Surge Protector Universal Socket with 6.5Ft (2-Meter) Heavy Duty Cable Overload Protection, Extension Cord Comes with 5 Years Manufacturer Warranty, Grey Color, 220 Volts @ Rs.1308

BTW I should have this as I was thinking they are the same. Thanks for telling.

anybody knows extension with 2 buttons ? so to control sockets seperately?
I used to use a frontech spike buster long back in 2008. In 2012 when I bought a new PC I got this Goldmedal Powerstrip. I never thought of using surge protector since I use APC 1100VA UPS connected to powerstrip. Is there a need for surge protector for UPS, Router, Epson Printer, Laptop instead of the powerstrip?

sensitive electronics should be behind surge protector but UPS should not as itself is doing the job...
also dont think printer and router need surge protection...

Actually Belkin should make surge protectors with LED Indicators like image below, MX Also make such but it's cost very very high.

These surge protectors are just glorified extension boxes with some mosfets in them. Not worth the price. I have the MX 4 strip surge protector with mosfets and it just allows high voltage to pass through to any connected items.

I had directly connected my MX surge protector to socket and when I switched on my laptop power adapter, it started making some crackling noise like some internal components were shorting with some ground. Connected the adapter to another socket and same thing. then connected to real surge protected output of apc ups and no noise. So these surge protectors actually don't protect against high voltage since it is not technically a surge to them They only protect the wiring in house from electronic items overloading the wires due to some short or using >2500W item on a 6A socket. All our pc electronics don't come in this category except pc with 1000W or more psu.

Surges in wires (mismatch between live and neutral) only come during rare lightning or if some electrical wires got touched together by mistake/during construction activity in somebody's house or in building or road, etc. For normal days, computer ups or lowest cost stabilizer without high/low cutoff is better.

Belkin used to offer a gold series back in the day with better components (MOV) and market it with higher amp, joules and insurance coverage. Now they only offer the essential series.

Apart from this the other well marketed brand is honeywell (it’s not actually the honeywell brand but ‘honeywell connection’ which just licenses the brand, but sells rebadged/white-labelled goods. Honeywell has a platinum series and another basic/essential series. I see platinum series less and less in the market now. Not sure why this is the case, possibly high returns/RMA claims.

I’m assuming big brand + higher marketing spend = better quality than generic stuff, but probably someone with the right background can educate us on which brand/model is the best.

A review of the honeywell platinum model seems to indicate quality components - https://www.amazon.in/gp/customer-r...=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0CWGJYLRC

yeah this! these indicators more like plug plates like this can also be used to check grounding and minute electricty changes. it comes in handy in rural/semi-urban regions for PC where electrical networks aint the best,
(there is a separate plug/device which comes which does same/similar job and they can cost nearly the same as plug plates like these).
sidenote the indicators used by local brands are sh1t.

that below image separate device missing Line & Ground Missing Indicator, compare to above image Anchor Power Strip
