I am planning to buy a new car for my family. So far I have zeroed on Swift as it has a nice sporty look and is spacious and suits my built :P

Car would usually be driven by my Dad/brother (NCR) monthly kms done should be around 1000 with long route may be once in a month or three.

Budget as of now is 4.5L but can stretch to 5L

Now the confusion which I have is which model to go for and which one would end being VFM and have most mileage.

Vxi/Zxi does not have much difference apart from the Zxi looking much more loaded in terms of accessories and features but being a Petrol version cost of fuel would be more as compared to diesel.

Vdi (well this is the one which I really want to go for) have heard lot of good word for this model but on road this would end like around 5.5L (is it worth spending 5.5L?) and it does not have the extra features like Zxi though it is costlier.

Can any one guide me which one to go for, esp those who have these models??

Zxi is totally out of your budget, its 70k more than the Vxi, but has ABS Airbags Audio system, slightly different suspension, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres of a different size, height adjustable seat and climate control.

Overall a Vdi would be cheaper than the Zxi for you.

:P

If usage is not high then Vxi is the best option. If usage exceeds 2k km per month Vdi is a better choice.

If safety has preference (Abs Airbags) you have the option of Zxi and the Zdi now.

If the monthly running is going to be ~1000kms ..then Vdi is the one to go for ..the Fiat multijet engine of Swift diesel has won many awards in the past. so it's tried and tested ..

get the diesel ..if Vdi is out of budget ,get the Ldi . but Vdi would be more VFM .

Swift petrol wont be feasible for 1000 kms + of running ..We have a Swift Zxi and the mileage it gives is 11/12 in city. so with 1000kms of running ,you will have to spend quiet a lot on a petrol swift . ::P

^^ True that too, Zxi gives a lower avg than the Vxi, I know :D I get 10-16 in my Zxi depending on driving habits, A/c, traffic, v/s a 12-16 in the Vxi same conditions. (Dunno why yet)

As per the price list I think Zxi would end cheaper than Vdi in terms of money but with a milegae of ~11-12 I don't think petrol would be a nice option for me :P

Some one told me that Vdi delivers an average of ~20? is this city or highway figures?

And also is there a Zdi model?

Key word: OVERALL - As in considering all aspects including TCO - total cost of ownership. :D

Keep in mind that you would spend 10-20K towards an audio system in a V or L model, plus 10-20K for accessories like mudflaps, footmats, steering grips, sun film, parking sensors etc etc in any model.

Zdi is a recent entrant, and is not usually available, you need to inquire with your dealer. Have seen only 1 unit so far.

Keep in mind the different waiting list times for each model. a Lxi or Vxi will be available off the shelf. The Zxi is typically 2-4 months. The Ldi/Vdi/Zdi would be > 3 months.

this newer gen diesel engines, have pretty much eliminated the requirement of 1500-2000KM runnning per month to be economical.
also with a good car and economical diesel engine you will easily plan a trip or two every month. May be short ones, but they do tend to happen.
I experienced this with my Petrol engine.
I think VDi is good for u.

Also why not take a look at Palio MJD with same engine. If u want to have more fun Getz CRD has amazing engine. and both of these are genuine 5 seaters, unlike Swift.

^ well the most important point for me is space and swift is the only car in which I can sit at back easily :P

Though I would explore about palio as you said but mostly Palio owners does not advice for the same.

Even though i myself have bought a VDi last month i would advise you to go in for a VXi over the VDi. Simple because with 1000Kms average run for a month the VXi turns out be a cheaper over a period of 5 years. You wont be able to cover the price difference of 1 Lac in five years if you drive the car for 60000 Kms during 5 Years(1000x12x5).

I think the Zdi is available only for the Dzire

Buy the Vdi - you'll love the car :hap2:

Naah you can push for the Zdi, but u really need to push stating you need airbags - just an overhear tho, will need to confirm. Ofc the Vxi will prolly suit your needs much better.

Well I would be keeping the vehicle for longer than 5yrs my 8yrs old 800 is still serving me good with a mileage of ~16

airbags are optional on the Vdi itself, but with astronomical wait times

am pretty sure there is no ZDi, at least till recently

I have not seen a single ZDi till date. Also i doubt if they would give you a VDi with airbags. The VDi + ABS itself takes more then 3 months to arrive.

If you drive around a lot, Buy the DDiS, For safety and other goodies buy the ZXI, IMO Airbags are very important especially in undivided highways, Pls opt for ABS if you're buying VDI. The basic safety feature of a car.

A Zxi is the best choice. For a running of 1000 km per month does not make sense to go for diesel

hey i'm having a swift LDi bought by my father in 07'.........it's mileage is around 15-17 in the city and above 19 on highways !
we wanted to buy the car in the white colour and only LDI version was available in white colour ,we thought of buying VDi but unfortunately it was
in red colour.............so giving away power windows we bought the LDi version!
SWIFT is awesome car and has a good powerfull AC too .another car -i20 is giving good fight to SWIFT but i would strongly recommend SWIFT!

cheers.:hap2:

anybody plz help me... i may buy car... wanna make decision petrol or diesel...
here is my calculation

km-60000(5yrs) - ltr-4500 - rs-225000 petrol (average 12 and cost 50 apprx)
km-60000(5yrs) - lts-3000 - rs-120000 diesel (average 20 and cost 40 apprx)

if i drive 1000km per month then petrol cost for 5 years would be 2.25laks
and diesel one cost 1.2L only... so wont it make sense to go for diesel one ?

Well first off the diesel version mileage is lower, its 15 in city and 20 on the highway, and for petrol is 11 in city and 14-15 highway. So make your calculations on how much city and highway running you do.

The difference between the VDI and VXI is roughly 70k. Also you have to take into account the extra interest cost. 11% for three years is 20k extra there. So total difference is 90k.

Resale value of the Diesel is also higher. So for your running of 12000 km/year it just about makes sense to go for a diesel.

Everything else aside, its the diesel torque thats addicitive!! :D

Ps also look at the Ritz and the upcoming Fiat Grande Punto. And if petrol have a look at the Getz as well. The 1.3 is priced similarly to the swift and is a good car too
