i've been using 256 airtel unlimited connection for the past 3 yrs now.
i get around 1350 rs bill every month.

is it a goos idea to move to night 2 mbps unlimited in either tata indicom or bsnl?

i escalated airtel today, they dont have any plans to come with night unlimited plans, hence no point sticking around with airtel

Hey, I am in the same boat, have had Airtel 256 unlimited and am seriously considering TATA after reading the 2mb thread here. Airtel as far as uptime and reliability is concerned has been fabulous, zero issues but 2mb at that price is difficult to overlook so I applied for Tata, let's see if they provide the service in my area in Pune and maybe I will consider keeping both connections by downgrading my Airtel plan.

I would have preferred if Airtel would come up with an equally good plan, they should considering they do show leadership in the markets they compete in but of late they have become a bit slack as far as broadband is concerned, no announcements or new plans from them for ages.

Maybe I should dump them after all, and encourage the people who give more value for money in this case Tata though I do hear they are not as reliable as Airtel in terms of uptime and problem resolution and that's a concern.

Get the Quick Power 360 w/ Night U/l plan from tata indicom and also 128kbps u/l from airtel, you'll end up paying Rs.1290/month ( 750 for airtel w/ free voice calls worth Rs.50+540 for tata [3641/6 months]). That way u can be online for 24hrs and besides one can't really trust tata for the stable connectivity.

anything unlimited night time in bsnl, hows the uptime??

and also will i need a landline for tata and bsnl?

I have already migrated from Airtel to Tata. I am happy with my decision. 5 GB + every night, what more could one ask?

I was using airtel 256 UL connection till 3 days back.

Recieved a call from airtel, they offered 512kbps UL plan with 20% discount.

And Now I am getting speed around 55kbps....only for 1500-1600/-(don't remember the exact fig.)

^^ even 512kbps UL theoretically will download lesser than 2mbps for 8 hrs each night....i too have applied for a change in MTNL to 2mbps NU (since we don't get tata, airtel, bsnl in our appts)....

Look at the extreme conditions in both scenario's:

On 256kbps unlimited, you download 2.4gb after leeching 24 hours (every last second of it).
This leaves you without getting anything done other than just waiting.

On 2mbps night-unlimited, you download 4.8gb in just 6 hours leaving the rest of your daytime completely free for other things.

Oops, I just did this on a lark, now Tata have got back to me and its available in my area, decision time!

On one hand I am really happy with Airtel 256 unlimited, it served me well without downtime for a long time, on the other 2MB is difficult to resist. The spoiler here is TATA seems to have acquired a bad rep and all I am reading is incompetent customer service and downtime.

The way out is to keep both connections at least untill I get confidence in TATA, any ideas from you guys on what Airtel plan I should take, ideally I don't want to spend more than 1200pm on Internet.

^^Tata is not as bad as its made out to be. But yes, not as good as Airtel in service. Having said that... Tata 2 mpbs for 12 hours more than makes up for it. There is NO comparable plan... PERIOD!!!

i think TATA is available only in mumbai, pune etc...and is not available in delhi...am i right???

Edit: I think TATA is available in my area, i am using 256kbps unlimited right now, whats the TATA plan that i should go for....there is this Rs.99 night unlimited plan from TATA, that sounds too good to be true, and if its true then what should i combine it with for the daytime.

i was also looking for Tata Quick Power 360 w/ Night UL...thts the best offer to go for...but sadly they dont provide service in my area in Pune :( damn...whr r u living Raul?? i wud say go for Tata...

99 bucks extra for NU ..therefore 1389 pm in total + tax for each ISP :S

I'm also thinking of migrating to a decent d/l plan. My elec bill has increased by 400/- and I am paying 1122/- every month for 256 kbps unlimited from Airtel.
Now, Airtel has been stable for me so far with no down time at all. But, I see that I don't really need that now. What I need is max download in lesser no.of hours esp. at night and that too starting at a reasonable hour say 10or 11 p.m. to 8 or 9 a.m. And I don't want to pay Tata advance for anything given their track record.
If Tata has a plan where you don't have to pay advance I'd go for it and ditch Airtel who seems to be ignoring broadband user pleas.

The TATA guys were supposed to come today, they didn't turn up, I live in Viman Nagar, I am trying to figure out to which plan to downgrade to on Airtel from the current 256 unlimited.

V1gnesh suggestion is what I initially thought of but it will be 1500-1600 with taxes and that's too high, I just went through Airtel's tariff plans, too complicated and very low caps, like 500mb or 25 hrs, that's ridiculous, ideally I would be ok paying around 600+ taxes for a downgraded Airtel plan and balance 600 for Tata. Lets see.

Hi All, just saw night unlimted has been stopped in another forum, for new connections I think, so called up and just confirmed on the status of my applied for connection. They say night unlimited is currently unavailable, and will be coming back shortly though they could not confirm the dates and so I have put my application on hold untill/if they get it back.

I just spoke to a sales executive today regarding a new connection and the NU plan, he said that its available.

For the people already using the Tata prepaid broadband connection, do you need to login to their software to access the net ? Because I am usually not at home at night and I was planning to keep the computer on and use utorrent scheduler to start the download at 9 pm.
