System is new w/o OS installed, it powers up until I hear monitor click when it gets video signal then shuts down. This occurs in about a 15-20 second time frame. I tried all of the following (individually and all at once) to no avail:

disconnect power to all devices
pulled cpu
pulled ram
I unplugged the 4pin 12v plug and it doesn't shut down but I don't have video. So I plugged it in while running and it shut down instantly so I pulled PSU from another known working system and the same thing happens. Also, the cd drive will open and close as long as I don't plug the ribbon cable in. I beleive the mobo is defective, am I correct?

Everything is new except Geforce mx 4000 vid card which was pulled from a working machine. I wondered about the ram but I didn't think it was a factor since it is on a different voltage leg, unless it gets it's voltage from the 12v auxillary plug. It doesn't beep or anything when it boots and Corsairs memory configurator indicated it is compatible. However it is dual channel and mobo manual doesn't specify which 2 slots to put ram in. There are 2 purple slots and 32 orange and their orientation is staggered (purple orange purple orange) and I can't find any reference to which color or slots are which channel.

the system should work where ever u put the RAM regardless of dual channel.Anyway, try using any other RAM and see(some other brand)

I don't have any other 240 pin dimm modules around. The only reason I don't just send the mobo back is I'm not sure if thats the problem. I have 2 new ones like it in transit so I guess I'll see what happens with tem. I'll post my results and findings so maybe someone else can benefit from my misfortune

the system does not complete post and pc shuts down at the end . usually i would belive its a power supply or mobo /cpu issue . try looking in for that

try changing PSU , then mobo and cpu

does ur mobo BEEP when u pull out stuff etc, like mem if u remove shud beep thrice continuosly, if it does mobo shud b ok if it doesent mobo is dead simple

I found the problem. I removed everything from mobo & started plugging back in 1 by 1. The cpu shut it down as soon as I hit the power so I pulled it and got the old magnifying glass out. The factory had 2 pins in one spot on the socket and one of them was touching another one next to it. Looks like they are physically joined so I will send mobo back. I'm concerned now about the cpu cause it was hottern blue blazes when I popped it out.
