Tablet just for movies and magazines

I already asked a friend of mine, whose touchpad is just lying around. She said need to ask her mom first. Mom uses to play angry birds. :S. hmmm.

HP Touchpad is a good tab if you are getting it cheap.

it can easily play 720p mkv files with CM9, VLC and Dice players

check out the touchpad section on xda forums to get more details

P.S. the touchpad weighs a freakin 740 gms, check if you are comfortable with the weight, i dont think you can hold it for a long perioed of time

intex i-tab seem's good.

Couple of lower end budget tablets i would suggest here 'HCL ME U1 and Micromax Fun Book Pro' you can perform your task easily with these tabs.
Else if you are looking something way-stunning then Samsung Tab2 7-inche is there to pay for; but for this you may need to increase your budget it cost INR-19000.00.

I used to have a Samsung Tab2- watching movies on that was no fun though- simply because the screen is not that much larger than most smart phones with 4.3inch plus screens. I gave the Tab2 away to a relative- and now for the same purpose of watching movies and reading mags etc- will definitely go to 10inch format. Am at present looking forward for Ainol Hero 10inch Tab- provided the reviews come out positive. I will even be OK if a Dongle can bring 3G connectivity to the Tab.

If it's just for movies and magazines then why not an iPad 1st gen 64 GB with 3G ?
I had mine on sale but withdrew that due to low balling and non serious takers and I'm currently using it for the same purpose and I'm happy that I didn't sell it off !
Especially with the mammoth storage, great screen and battery life of at least 9 hrs, it makes sense then some poorly built flimsy tablet at 10K. Supports 720p just fine and adds up to web browsing with 3G. And with an MTNL 3G sim, I'm on a 3G network almost everywhere across India on my home tariff.

720P MKVs generally make it stutter, some might work though but generally I've been disappointed.
MP4s work perfectly fine though.
