not related to the question but this is too high. Set it to something below 90/95

think my max connected peer per torrent is set at 200.

speeds are fine for me though, still pulling 200kb/sec easily on torrent DLs.

If so try doing this

In my case the router's (gateway's) address is 192.168.1.254. Try accessing the gateways config page at xxx.xxx.xxx.254 where the xxx is the gateway's IP's forsy three octets.

The default username/password for my router is admin/admin. Try loging in with the ID/password (if you can access the login page). If you can successfully reach this page than its just a matter of port forwarding then.

@Wraith : i thinkhat would be my last option... he he....

meanwhile can someone tell me do u get a constant speed of 200+ in all torrent sites or only on well seeded torrents on private sites like hdbits.org.... also how many DHT conn. you get...

i get speeds like that only on well seeded torrents, i also got the small triangle with the ! mark on it in the bottom, dth nodes in my other isp use to be 200 sumpthing, now its only 7-8 in tata...

then i checked on utorrent's site if my port i m using is blocked, and it said blocked, i m using port 8081 .

i did a scan of all my ports using a site i googled, all were blocked (1-65535)..

then i decided to call tata, they asked me which port is blocked, i said 8081, then they asked me to hold, after a while they said that the port will be unblocked and i will be responsible for all the data that goes/comes from that port.... and they asked me to send them an email stating that 'i will be responsible for..... port'

so should i send the email or not ? they make it sound like a crime :/

u can get a 200+ speed only for well seeded torrents....
about your u torrent problem : go to the utorrent directory in "documents and settings/application data/", delete 'settings' and 'settings.dat.old' files.....this will reset your current utorrent settings, then start the utorrent application, ur port adress will be automatically resetted to a suitable working port adress, confirm the settings and u are done with it......:hap2:

@techiepro : did that but still cannot get the green icon.

Finally i did a reinstall of winxp, (earlier i have vista) and now i am getting speeds of 230+ on hdbits and on well seeded torrents of desitorrents and iptorrents i am getting 210+...But i still not able to get the DHT nodes beyond 10-20 and the NAT status to green...Something to do with Network settng in vista.... have to figure that out....

@tejo : mailing them in writing seems a bit risky, you never know what the consequences can be.... but what-the-hell.... as long as they are opening the port.... maybe i will try that when i face speed problem again, but right now i can getting speed decent enough...

Try to ping ur gateway . if ur getting a packet drop then ur connectivity is not good , that also might be the reason for this.

Ur gateway is 10.6.136.1 as u mentioned

Click on start > run > type cmd

Type these commands in the console.

Code:
Ping 10.6.136.1 -t -l 1000

This is a command for pingning with 1000bytes

There shud not be even a single packet drop in this scenario

Code:
Ping 10.6.136.1 -t -l 2000

This is a command for pingning with 2000bytes

There can be a packet drop after 10 or 20 successful packets.

If there is a packet drop then tell ur cableop to check the wiring , also what speeds are u getting for http downloads.

If u are getting speeds in excess of 180 to 200KB/s for http downloads then

torrent shud also support that speeds if its seeded properly.

Also do a speed test here

DATAONE BROADBAND - Bandwidth Meter

And do atleast 10-15 times and lemme know what speeds are u gettin.

various speed test shows speed around 1500 to 1750 kpps..... Also i have downloaded from microsoft site a 1 gig sql 2005 at constant rate of 243 kBps....

But since the local lan is used, so i know from past experiences, i am prone to sudden drops in speed, which after repeated complaints have not and will not be resolved.

My problem now zero ins to :

1. I am getting decent speeds on private sites like hdbits and iptorrents. But not public sites like piratebay, even though the seeders are plenty. Earlier with my local connection, this was not the problem.

2. Earlier my local net had port forwarded properly. But not now. Always the yellow or red icon. And the small number of DHT nodes, which i guess would be due to this only.

@tejo.. you can open the ports yourself.. no need to send them any emails or anything. just look at the port forwarding guide on this site.

@neomustdie, the simplest way to avoid any port blocking problems is to use your connection in "dial to connect" mode where you have to manually dial to log on to the internet. this isn't too bad since logging in usually only takes a second or so.. however, if you're sharing your connection with multiple computers and/or a wireless router, it could be a problem.

@ashr:i dont think any of the above works.

coz tata connection he got is frm local cable wala n doesnt req a ADSL modem.

also TATA has a web based dialer so dat manual dial up thing also doesnt work.

@kumar : i cannot get access to the router page as describe by you.

@ashr : i have a web based conenction. When i tried downloading the TATA Broadband manager and installing it on vista but it simply crashed my pc. Can someone help me with how to get the dialer in place..??? Are you talking about the pppoe thing...???? I will ask the person who setup my ip/gateway to get the pppoe dialer installed.... But how does that relieves me from the port forwarding problem..???

^well when i use my airtel connection in pppoe mode, all my ports are automatically opened. im guessing it'll be the same for tata since afaik, it happens with BSNL DSL too.

is it true... should i go for the pppoe dialer.... will it open all the ports for my in my tata connection..????

no harm in trying :) it always works with my airtel line.

agreed... i just want to know the reason behind it... is it true for all service providers... reason beign generally i reach home very late... and no one at home would be any help to the service person to come and change the settings......

So if some members can vouch for it.... i would take the pain to get the pppoe dialer right away... else will try it after some time when i get free time from work, to give it a try...

hey lol u fool tata ney speed gives only 15 kbps where normally for toerrents downloading should be 256 or 512 kbps speed so its impossible to download from tatat connction

better u buy bsnl or mtnl hving good speed and economuical

my reply fond to be useful reply me ok
