Tata photon plus woes

Any help will be appreciated.

I took a Tata Photon plus 15 GB usage plan on the 27th of July 2010. (the device was activated on 27th July). Till date the "internet usage meter" on their site shows that I have used a little less than 12 GB. (as of writing this account it was 11451 MB) which means that I still have at least 3 GB left.

Now the problem is that I got a call from their customer care on the 11th saying that I need to pay 1110 rupees as usage amount from 27th July to the 11th of August 2010 . I asked them what amount is this as I was under the impression that since my account got activated on the 27th my month would be completed on the 27th of next month. But then the caller told me that my billing cycle has been fixed from 13 th of every month till 12 th of next month. I found this most random but in any case listened to the caller. After a few minutes I again got a call from another CC executive saying that I have to pay 376 rupees. He said that he had no idea about the previous caller.

In the evening I called up their toll free number and spoke to another CC. Now this gentleman tells me that I have to actually pay 576 rupees as advance amount and not as usage amount.

I listened to all this entirely convinced that these guys were talking utter nonsense and had no clue about my actual bill. Finally, to confirm the next day I called up 2 more times. One CC executive told me that I don't have to pay anything and my usage from 27th to 12th would be counted as free. The final straw came when 10 minutes later another CC executive told me that my bill would be generated on the 15 th of every month so till that they can't tell me anything. :)

I have always said that customer care in India is a myth and this incident only confirmed my suspicion that people with IQ below 50 are 'groomed' into CC executives.

I m just hoping that I get a bill with zero rupees usage on the 15th or else I have to approach a consumer court .

Anyone had similar issue with Tata photon plus?

wow, such a lame example, and they call themself world class companies, shame on them and their managing people.

This is funny! :) Anyway just wait for the actual bill and if there is any problem send a mail to customercare. I find that sending a mail gives a better response than speaking to them over phone. Whenever I had a billing issue, they have fixed it comparatively fast. :)

generally all service providers do a pro-rata till the billing cycle so if you have a plan of 15gigs then for 15 days u use 7.5gig and pay for the rest..

this is my experience with all plans - talk mins free/ sms / roaming / data....

but wait for the bill and decide..

What do you expect when they use systems that can be bought at the lowest possible price by negotiating at more than 12 levels!

OT Checked their website Tata Photon after reading your post .... It reads stuff like "Monthly Rentle" ... "Plug-in-play no CD requred" .... LOL that a TATA website
I don't think that is TATA's Official website. It seems to be some dealer's site hence all the mistakes.

If you check the bottom of the site, you can see

Offer brought to you by CellBazaar.in . CellBazaar.in & this site is a exclusive property of GMG DISTRIBUTORS.

yup most service providers have pro-data basis for biliing, but they also provide free usage for first few days till u reach the billing cycle, so you should check with them. You can also ask them to charge you for the whole month in which case your limit will be 15gb and you'll pay only 1 months bill. extra bill is occuring in your case as they are using pro-data basis so ur limit is 7.5GB above which they charge you per MB downloaded which is very high. This has caused the inflated bill.

Finally met nodal officer here and the problem was solved with me paying only the rental amount. Their CC is outsourced to companies who care a rat's ass about providing any CARE. All they are bothered about is collection of money - All these in the words of the nodal officer himself. So , once again to summarize short n sweet - MERA BHARAT MAHAAN.
