Ok i opened up my Tata sky+ HD box and managed to connect the HDD to the computer but the files are not working on VLC or MPC. So i tried extracting anything inside them but that also did not work. Then i tried splitting the file into two and added a h.264 header to the file but it still did not play
<
lastly i tried converting it via handbrake which also has failed.

Since i need something i recorded on republic day i have to somehow get them working with my PC. So any ways how i can get these to play on my computer?

interesting! what extension do the files have? did you try using mediainfo on them?

The files have weird names and no extensions. Here are the names of the few i have copied on my computer:

ZABbrRQa

XagFyRTF

DUtERffE

They are 141mb, 258mb and 223mb respectively. I tried mediainfo but it hangs and did not give any results, i tried to debug it and it says the program is in a loop on AacGeneralAudio.cpp

seems i will have to get a stupid HDTV card for the computer.

After a rather lengthy discussion on another forum about the same issue, it was concluded that the Videos were encrypted and very difficult to crack. This is done to protect the data of course, from copying. The poster tried hard to find the manufacturer details and the encryption used but last I saw no satisfactory result was found. Maybe after that they might have found something but I didn't follow it up.

Humm which forum was that if i knew the encryption algo used i would start to decrypt it with my downloader which is on 24/7.

^^ even if you know the algorithm used you would need a key, which I guess is fairly impossible to obtain. Or else were you to plan a brute force attack with your

downloader which is on 24/7.

it would take years to crack it.

Yes was thinking brute force but you are right years is just too much

, I use brute force to copy Blue ray's which take about 20-26 hrs to copy to my HDD.

I tried to see the header via a HEX Editor and the starting is padded with lots of "00000..." after that things start to appear but i cant make a match with anything that i made "AES, DES, Fishblow and SEED" The hex header is different in comparison to all of these.

any idea about the newly introduced Dish tv's unlimited recording, you need to connect an external hdd to the set top box are any exploits possible there?

You should stop thinking about this, they might be using some proprietary encryption that you may not be aware of, so just sit back and relax till some leak takes place or a disgruntled employee spills the beans.

If this all is encrypted then how come at various website we get to see those Indian TV shows uploaded ?

I know because i see downloaded shows and the source seems to be Airtel DTH since the reminders show up many a times (within the video).

^ Those shows are recorded using TV Tuners. The guys connect their connection to the computer and then record it.

This is just my guess, but I think these files are not just encrypted. I believe these are using some kind of proprietay HW based encryption + HW based codec to record and playback. Chances are even if you were able to decrypt these files, you might require a HW based decoder to play back these files.

Is anyone aware of a decent Video capture card (with Component-In) that I can attach to the Comp-out of the TS HD+ Box and record TV Shows on my PC?

It can be a PCI-E or an external USB one, doesnt matter, as long as its between 2-3k..!

Also, does the Component out of the TS HD+ box give out unencrypted video?

read some where, that even composite(?) can come with Macromedia protection of some kind..

I am using hauppage pvr150 to capture from my airtel HD using composite. As far as I know no brand has a capture card within 3k with component in capturing.there are some cards with component capturing above 5k.

^ component and composite are analog signals and cannot carry any digital encryption in them. TS hd box is unencrypted in both component and composite.

I believe Dish TV now provides a USB port to copy to an external HDD. Its also mentioned on their website. Record without limits.

Called up DishTV people asked about the usb interface HDD's and if i can play it back on PC. The first two people did not know anything about it but when i asked for the supervisor he told me what i was wondering.

According to him the files are encrypted and then stored on the usb HDD this is done via a H/W encryption and using a unique key "Different for all boxes meaning you cant play back your recordings on some on else's box
<
" I asked about the recorder settings he had no idea oh well.

My TataSky HD recordings dont really look all that great compared to the preview/surf mode so there must be high compression going on. I wonder how well others record HD.

Got a call back from a local computer hardware store i had asked about buying a capturing card for HDMI or S-Video. Well i know about TV tuners which have S-video in but they are less than meant to record at 720 × 576 in top notch quality or for that matter 1080i in any case.

They have the following items in stock:

Aver DVD EZMaker Gold:- 2100

Aver DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro:- 6700

Aver Game Broadcaster HD:- 9000

Which should i buy i am inclined to get the first one because its the cheapest
<
and full DVD Pal resolution is not that bad to record 720p humm. I mean the cheapest HDMI 1080p recorder is very expensive compared to the first option what do you all say?
