Left completely from this year. Apart from a couple of sparkles, didn't want to waste money anymore. Used to spend 10k easily on crackers before, now realised its waste of money instead I can buy diyas and decorate my place beautifully.

+1 should be only digital. Would save so much trees and help in curbing pollution in the air. Help reduce the carbon wastes.

Also with reduced costs for printing paper. The newspapers could actually provide actual news than auction in their pages to post paid news like them first page of the Bombay times.

I myself will use less crackers ... but I won't buy this pollution story of crackers .. If you see the % of contribution by diwali to pollution on a year... It will be 0.0000000000000000000 some decimal... Our "Secular" media just making a show of it... Came across this blog
Diwali,Holi, Ganesh Puja, crackers and Osama.. http://themonkwhogothismurari.blogspot.in/2015/11/diwaliholi-ganesh-puja-crackers-and.html
The pollution does increase a lot for a few days. Normal people might not feel it's intensity but older people and people suffering from breathing problems like Asthma really suffer a lot. I know because I have someone in my family who goes through this every Diwali. If she doesn't stay indoors, she might have to be hospitalized. So basically celebrating Diwali like we people do puts lots of peoples lives at risk.

Most developed countries don't allow personal firework displays. It's usually done by the local body and people can come to watch it. This not only mitigates the risks but also reduces the pollution figures by a huge amount as compared to what we do here in India.
If pollution isn't a reason strong enough for you then perhaps you should look at the huge no of cases of injuries caused by fireworks that pop-up every Diwali.

I am in complete agreement with your point. However, if we exercise some prudence round the year, we can avert cases like these ,ex, carpools, embracing public transportation, stricter green laws etc.
Pinning excessive pollution to one festival is not the right way of tackling the basic problem, I believe!

I feel that if Govt improves public transport only in city of Mumbai, we would probably cause less pollution than the Diwali celebrations by entire country.

What about those missile sent to Syria. They are even more deadly in terms of the pollution. They should be stopped first [emoji4]

One should care for the environment and such acts of explosion results in global warming, high carbon emissions, respiratory problems to the locals living in Syria.

India slowly turning into an "intolerant" state? Seems like it...
