Try copying a .vob file and not playing a dvd. Then check the cpu utilization while copying.

the main problem is the stuttering of the dvd movies etc. normal data cds are working fine like driver cds etc are getting read properly and all
but only when i try and play a dvd the movie starts stuttering a lot , but like i said the thing works fine on win 98

well i copied a vob file and the graph showed above 100 when copying as u can see ive copied a 103mb file and the high points are when the copying is going on.........hope this helps

implies dma is off. check the bios for dma settings. it might have been disabled. Its the first item in the integrated peripherals section of the bios.

it is enabled.... i tried disabling it and playing it and still the same thing happens the dvd stutters ....

dude dont u think if it was the cables fault , then it wouldnt even work in xp but like i said its workin fine in xp......

do one more thing..in the BIOS, is ur DVD drive set as auto or CD/DVD drive??? a friend had same probs..setting it to Auto in BIOS solved the problem...

but it waas a P4..hmmm...
