The Dead Space thread!

OK this thread should have been in place almost 2 years back but what the heck! :p

I fired the game yesterday and bumped into few issues!

1. Initially after firing up the game, I found the mouse movement to be extremely sloppy and a quick Google searched linked me to a thread on EA forums suggesting that turning off the V-Sync made that alright and it actually did!

2. No patches released till date! The game released 2 years back alright but Visceral Games should have at least released one patch to address this issue and several other bugs found in the game.

3. A useful glitch - using the stasis regen stations, one can fill it up, head to the inventory stations and save it for credits. Lather, rinse, repeat. I think this should work although I haven't bothered trying it out.

But that said, the gameplay is kickass and I am loving it - the game resembles Q4 and D3 in several aspects. For instance, a door would refuse to open until you get a keycard from one of the crew who is laying dismembered in some remote corner of the spaceship. Sounds are just amazing and would freak you out if you were to play using a proper set of cans and in the dark. Hell no, this cannot be compared to Amnesia: The Dark Descent because this game lets the protagonist hold a weapon! Visuals are pretty good as well and not very taxing on the system. I totally loved the settings with the Jap crew onboard, the Necromorphs etc.

I have reached level 3 btw.

Please post your impressions on the game! Oh and I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to spimmer sir. :gap:

Yeah talking of which there is a 75 min. movie which supposedly is a prequel to the game! I think I'll download it tonight. :p

Dead Space: Downfall - Wiki

Thanks for the up Sandman!

@mojo: thanks! Point noted. As such I concentrate on the limbs although each time I counter a different species of the necromorph I go clueless and fire all around lol.

@Allwyn: this thread beckons your valuable inputs and thoughts! :p

You don't really need the movie to play the game. In fact I'd recommend you play the game before checking out the film.

There are a lot of cool things in the game like the healthbar on the player's suit, the path markings, the death animations etc that I loved about the game. I just wish that they would have gone a bit more overboard with the blood, especially more bloody footprints.

^Yeah those dismemberments are pretty cool. I love the way it sounds and the way blood squirts. :D

But why can't Isaac jump? I agree his suit is heavy but is it that heavy he can't jump! Nor can he crouch or take cover. :\

Damn, now I want Dexter to come quick! September 26th aargh!

err....i didnt found any issues while playing the game. I played this game last year and i had a *ahem* copy. At first you will feel the controls are sloppy but actually it is a added realism to the game. You get better at controls when you upgrade.

The best part of the game is it's realism. Isaac's actions when he is caught by a Necromorph or while his health is down are really amazing. The ship's atmosphere feels so real with all those lighting. the weapons which Isaac's uses are actually mining tools.

^Now that makes sense. Thanks for the link. The flamethrower is rather a hydrogen torch as the specs on the game reads. :)

Btw what weapon or tool should I be upgrading? Been upgrading my suit. At level 3 ATM. Done some upgrades for the pulse rifle.

I seriously wish there was some map instead of pressing Ctrl to show the route. :\

For everyday use,I carry the Pulse Rifle. :p I would suggest fully upgrading it to max as you would be facing some seriously sticky situations as you progress. For biggies, I use the Line cutter. It sends a concentrated horizontal projectile cutting everything in it's way into half . It's like a bigger and more powerful Plasma cutter.

I love the game's concept of using engineering tools as weapons The developers have made sure that they have a background as well. :)

dead space is a great example of a nextgen horror game ......the control scheme is what RE should have borrowed instead of using its age old scheme ...though it was good then it just felt unnecessary this time

dead space .....using its control scheme , background score and its unique HUD created a great experience.

I dont know why all i was laft with in the game was with roller blade thingy's ammo ..plasma cutter is great and feels great to use.....i used line cutter when it was effetient to use one ...ie where there were large group of "what you call them",.

Yeah I liked that concept too. Rather than using the traditional weaponry i.e. Even the no HUD part was awesome. Health indicator at the back like the spine. Ammo indicator with each weapon. IMO a map could have been very very helpful rather than pressing Ctrl each time to show Isaac the route.

First things first. Nice thread. I always loved this game. Remember playing it the first time and when my head was ripped off -- I broke into a cold sweat...! Found the game concepts quite good, except the controls seemed a wee bit laggy special the aiming system. Weapon / system upgrade desks are really awesome. Playing around with them even when I had no credits. Sound is exceptional, specially locks and sealants opening/closing. Chunk.....thuckk..thuck..zzzzzzzshhhhhh...! :) I clearly recall playing this game 'carefully', cause seriously one hardly gets time to run/hide/find cover if any antagonist see you before you see them. Once the oxygen starts to run out, and the breathing gets raspy...really need to run for it. Game has punch.

Sadly I never finished this game, will give it a go if I ever get time.

This game draws a lot of resemblances from some movies like Aliens and Event Horizon. Encountered few face-huggers yesterday; some air locks reminded me of the Alien movie; saw a woman slicing a guy's torso with a butcher's knife and so forth.
