The death of a Legend - touchscreen woe

HTC Legend is a good phone and I like it when it works. :(

However the top 10% of the touch screen is not working at all.

I cannot click on anything that is on top of the screen like first name of the dialer list. The clear button on the notifications page. etc.

Also while the phone is accessing the internet (or has been in use for some time) it becomes unresponsive to touch. No matter where I click on the home screen, it opens the clock. At that point I have to restart the phone by pulling the battery as the shut down button on the screen also doesn't work.

Didn't expect this from an award winning phone. My colleague also bought this model and had to get it replaced within a month as the motherboard got fried. I wonder if these phones will continue working when the warranty expires.

Did u try showing it to a HTC ASC??

What did they have to say??

This is not expected from a phone that costs ~ 23k.....!!! :O

Well of course I will show it to them and they will fix it. Your last line explains why I have posted this thread.

This is a bad example for such an expensive phone, why can't these companies set their game right and make god stuff.

Better take extended warranty. safe and peace of mind.
Never knew HTC phones offered extended warranty. Does that cover whatever is applicable in the original 1 yr warranty period offered?

A Google search revealed nothing either.

This happened with my HTC Touch Diamond also.

If it is the touch screen which is not working then you can replace the Digitizer for a very nominal price.

Don't send the phone to the HTC idiots they will charge you a bomb and they will replace the screen also which is completely not required.

^^ Why would HTC charge for repairing the screen? Is it not covered under the warranty?

PS - Froyo update is coming for the Legend soon :D

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I'm having the exact same problem now. My phone is out of warranty and HTC will probably charge me a lot.

Many people seem to be suggesting a digitizer replacement but I have no clue about it. Can anyone tell me how to go about it without having to spend too much?

Many phones have this issue.

Are you willing to open and reseat the digitizer connector?

One of the blades had this issue with digitizer and it turned out to be a loosely fit connector.

Changing digitizer is fairly easy if you can open the phone without breaking it.

check on youtube...there are lots of videos which show you how to replace the digitizer on your phone. To buy the digitizer, check sites like dealextreme.com, focalprice.com, ebay.com etc...

ONly do it if you know about hardware as in most HTC phones it is very difficult to repair/replace the digitzer. The HTC Legend having a unibody design is likely to be even more difficult I guess.
