The Earl's New Groove (Part One)

Granite, about Rs 700 per stand.
Polishing and rounding, 2.5k
Cuduppa = 80 bucks for the two slabs.
Araldite, 120 bucks for 90gm tube (x2), Rs40 for 36gm tube, Rs20 for 9gm tube.
1kg birla white cement = Rs20
Time spent = About 2 weeks in total, as araldite takes 1 day to cure.
Stress on my back lugging 20kg slabs = well....I'll survive :p
Creating something on my own for the 1st time in my life = PRICELESS! :eek:hyeah:

When is your amp coming?

What amp ? .... he is using his onboard sound to drive the speakers :)

@Zhops.... those KEF BBC Monitors I showed you in my kids room have to be repaired - after about 20 years of use either the voice coil or the spider has worn off and I need to get it replaced :( I will take it to those guys repairing speaker at Lamington Road under the bridge :eek:hyeah:

No joke.... I have had many speaker repaired right there on the street .. talk about GHETTO repairs ... :) ... I have had replacement of voice coils of a Wharfedale 15" woofer (I got the voice coil itself from Wharfedale) as well as a replacement of surround on a Sony pair with honeycomb speakers - these ghetto repairers produced an identical square surround foam for these Sony's within half an hour - AMAZING !!! You will be surprised to note that when I am there I see guys from fancy shops bring speakers to these guys sitting on the street and get a voice coils/surrounds replaced for about 100/- and they probably charge their customers a fortune !! :eek:hyeah:

There used to be this guy Mr RAO who specialised in quality speaker repair jobs - he was directly opp the Grant Road Station (WEST) but he passed away many years back and his son who took over moved and I could never trace him. :(

Audio is no longer an important part of my life - thats why I do not want to spend fancy prices charged by the upmarket shops. There is this guy at Nana Chowk who is very good with Audio repairs but he is also very expensive. I paid 1.5k for the speakers so I am not going to pay him 2k+ for replacing a spider or voice coil :eek:hyeah:

Oh this was my only doubt. If you get the original voice coil and spider it would be no problem :D

Got the components for my passive pre :eek:hyeah:

ALPS Blue Velvet potentiometer and Neutrik sockets.

The cables I'd gotten earlier, just posting the pics now.

Presenting the UBER GHETTO PRE-AMP :D

I have to get a proper box, better wires, and heat-shrink sleeving. This was just for testing purposes :) I did manage to get it wrong, despite checking with a dmm :ashamed: Will have to reverse the connections next time. :p

All hard work done by Bikey :hap2:  All credit for goofing it goes to Lord Zhopudey :cool2:
