@ryanrulez4ever : Congrats! But why the 980 pro over the wd sn850? The sn850 is faster in pretty much everything.

@vishalrao : 980 pro is qlc too right? But it must be crazy fast being pcie gen 4.

SN850 uses SLC cache over TLC NAND and 980 pro uses MLC over all and has some SLC caching as well , MLC is more reliable over TLC on a long run , the best is SLC but its super expensive and both 980 pro and SN850 use it only for caching

And also the after sales service from Samsung is much better.

No unlike the previous gens which used MLC, 980 pro uses TLC as well. There are no MLC PCI-e 4.0 drives currently available! The nand used is 128L samsung tlc 3d nand.

Samsung site shows MLS : https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/980pro/

All 3 links above showed that its SLC and anandtech again shows its TLC , but again if it lasts me for next 5 years iam a happy man i will shift to a new build again in 5 years

Samsung website says 3 bit mlc which is another name for tlc. Real mlc is 2 bit per cell like 960 pro or 970 pro.

Real mlc stores 0,1,2,3 i.e. 4 voltage levels for each bit while tlc which is 3 bit can store 0-7 or 8 voltage levels.

these terms are confusing honestly, im going to use 2 NVME drives, 980pro for OS and applications and the other 970 evo plus for installing games.

Yea samsung pulled a bad one here. I was waiting for the 980 pro to appear to upgrade from my 960 pro. Unfortunately, the performance compared to sn850 seemed sub par so got the latter.
