The hardest game you have ever played

I was just trying out this PS3 game called "Demon's Soul" in my friends place and was so bloody frustrated at the difficulty level that I actually gave up trying after an hour. Even my friend has given up for the moment. But he doesn't normally give up a game [That too if he spends around 3k getting one] So he has hit gamefaq's for more help. Turns out that this game is a real b***h to win.

What is the hardest game that you have beaten? And by hardest, I don't mean the hardest setting. The default level should have made you feel ripping the skin of the developers for creating such a monstrosity. But you feel like not giving up until you see the credits rolling and your thumbs screaming for harakiri.

For me it was Onimusha 3, Ratchet and Clank [The first one] and Jak 3.
 
The last game I played on the PS3 - Heavenly Swords, swear I'd my time beating the last boss and his 3 incarnations; thank you SharekhaN for lending the game to me!

Ninja Gaiden Sigma and NGS 2 for the PS3 - does anything come close to it yet? I think Lord Nemesis and starchazer can pour their thoughts on these games.

Wonder what's wrong with these Japanese developers!
 
i found arma2 tough.

then there was this flight simulator game--don't remember version or name which i found tough---and then on i stopped playing flight sims

i found operation flashpoint dragon rising highly frustrating in certain missions--unless you check out a video on youtube--there is no known way to solve the mission--maybe due to buggy AI.
 
Talking about Japanese developers, add one more, the awesomely bad Kingdom Hearts. So much for cute Disney characters, I actually gave up in the long series of the final boss battles. And that was the first time I broke a controller in frustration.
 
i found Far Cry (1) pretty tough to play at normal difficulty in some of the later stages. had to finish the game using cheats :ashamed:

being a NFS regular, i found handling cars in GRID tough. but with some practice, it can me mastered.
 
Stalker clear sky veteran difficulty last level. Man I had to try and try and try countless time to crack it.
 
For me it was Mario bros in atari console (some 10-15 years back) i think...seriously.. wasn't able to finish that final dragon level :) ended up asking my cousin to finish it for me ..:ashamed:
 
has to be farcry(first part). played it on the toughest difficulty and almost cried trying to finish the game in the later levels.

also played igi 2 at a friends place and found it pretty tough compared to other games.
 
I guess some of us must be Masochistic to play some of these games. @mhamirma, Far Cry was a real pain in the ass. But I guess you can complete most of the FPS games with some level of cheating.

The real hardcore ones are the guys who complete the games without any scope of cheating at all like the JRPG's.
 
Prince of Persia 1 for me :) I just couldn't finish it in the 60 minutes time provided...

Then came along 'Megahit' ;) & they lived happily ever after
 
There are lot of games which are designed to be played not by the faint of heart...say, Ninja Gaiden. The difficulty was a design choice for Demon's Soul.

I too finished a lot of games with cheats-farcry,dark sector etc.:D
 
LOL I think i should try Ninja Gaiden Sigma, seems the PS3 ported version was even harder than the original Ninja Gaiden which made it to the X360 before. Button-mashing, button-mashing and more of button-mashing! :P
 
Age of Empires II at moderate and hard level (especially these death matches with 8 enemy players), you need to be God to complete the game.
 
East Front II

This game was/is a nightmare for me. I never even finished the first mission :ashamed:
