I have always liked the Hindu for its journalism. Too bad its not available in mumbai, where i have been for the past 5 years. I liked Hindu for having less advertisements, for having good reading material, for not being the puppet of congress and most of all for its unbiased and responsible journalism.
I have found all these to be missing from The Times of India.

My views are purely objective. So please dont try to shoot me. :p

So how many of you read The Hindu and how many read The Times of India?

Hindu are a quality outfit, their website is free of flash crap and their archives are easily available and i like the minimalist presentation. Way i see it if you read the epaper then you are already there. Their news section is informative i find compared to other newspapers. But they are not a local outfit for me so its great if your from madras but not otherwise. So i stick to my local.

One point to clarify, they are less biased when it comes to reporting on Congress or BJP, but how is their bias when reporting about the left ;)

There is no such thing as unbiased reporting anywhere. You get less biased or more biased.

Local for daily news, the TOI on sunday because i like the reports.

Hindu is web only for me.

TOI is the worst newspaper I have read. I have The Hindu and Indian Express to compare, as I have read those extensively. The Hindu is the best newspaper imo. Lots of reading material, good editing, unbiased (which puts off some ppl). Maybe a tad conservative, but I like it that way.

As far as TOI is concerned, every page is page3. They print the same article in twice in the same edition, or in the next days edition ( The other day I saw the same article twice on the front page itself, under 2 different headings, epic fail). They print articles which ends in the middle of a sentence, the front page news have spelling mistakes and blatant grammatical errors. There is nothing worthy to read as most of the pages (the number of which is substantially less than the hindu) are filled with pics and ads. While they may argue nobody has time to read a big newspaper, and that this is how modern newspapers should be, theres no denying the lack of quality. And I have to put up with it since I cant get anything else at my place (Baroda).

The Telegraph in Kolkata is pretty neat. And i have read other newspaper's from other cities too, and i would still say that.

Probably the best in India. They also have ePaper if you wanna check it out.

^... Totally... I've read Telegraph & its the best English daily... They cover everything & are hardly biased towards any one thing...

Too bad it only circulates in the NE...

A big thumbs down for TOI the way it is now, only thing to look forward to is the Speaking Tree supplement on Sundays. Even the Sunday editorials are pretty poor these days with guys like Chetan Bhagat spouting shit. Life supplement was also pretty good until the time it became a full of floss semi-porno journal.

I get the Hindu a day later (Chennai Edition) and still prefer that over TOI. Yes, there is a commy bias and its easy to see in the editorials.

well i have read hindu and time of india past 10 year both are doing good but the hindu make me hard English word to understand lot of meaning

and the time of india give easy to read and lot of photos drool it ;)

TOIlet paper; that is as good as Times of India gets.

The Hindu is miles ahead of it in terms of the content and editorials. Pretty sad we do not get one here in the west. :(

^^Well said. TOI has actually turned into worse than toilet paper.

As far as I'm concerned, I've stopped reading print newspapers since a while now. All my new comes from aggregators and google news.

TOI is the Toilet of India. Sick, disgusting, illiterate, manipulative, cheap, random, abusive and what not. They spread rumours quoting 'sources', and when proved wrong, they rarely bother issuing a clarification. On the contrary, they rename the title and publish the same article again.

It is a third grade paper. I wouldn't even compare it to The Hindu. That said, The Hindu was an even better newspaper till 3 -4 years back. Commercial constraints forced it to change tracks slightly, and they could also not attract the high quality talent they once could boast of. However, they still remain one of the best newspapers in India. I think the other one I like would be The Telegraph

I follow Google News and try to avoid articles from DNA, INDIA TV etc etc. Silly journalism or whatever crap they try to pass off as journalism.

I used to get Telegraph and TOI both once upon a time, but in the last 4-5 years TOI has gone to the gutters. The Times Supplementary section on Sundays used to be a pretty good but now it's filled with crap and incorrect information in the Gadgets sections.

as much as I like The Hindu for local news and extras, I feel a nickname it has got is very apt CBCNN (Chennai Based Chinese National Newspaper) :p ;)

TOI is playboy for the masses. During my school days, they had a thing called NIE(Newspaper In Education). They would supply Newspaper at a lower cost. The first thing or the only thing, the students would do were to read Bangalore Times. That's it. Crap paper.

The Hindu is the best. Most of the IAS, IPS candidates prefer this. No salt, pepper, sugar or masala. Just plain news. Deccan Herald(Deccan Chronicle) comes second.

How many here 'read' Deccan Chronicle? It is a pioneer in this field. Most of TOI's inspiration comes from DC. The latter manufactures news, taking 'news publishing' to an all new level

TOI is crap. Hindu is way better, and IE is even better. I read both online whenever i can.

However, since i get TOI, HT and DNA @ my place, must mention that TOI is better than DNA and is more or less equal to HT. DNA used to be good, now seems doing crap.

However, sunday editions of TOI and HT are awesome for the guest editors.
