Laptops The MSI Wind challenges the EeePC

The HP 2133 loses out to the eee PC because of the VIA proccy and is using a HDD. The MSI wind is using an 80GB HDD. On ultra portables, HDD most likely is a 1.8 incher(can anyone confirm if it's not?). Performance will be poor and not good for usage while on the go.

The eee still offers decent vfm with the eee900 being having better specs. But 4GB is very little these days just restricting the device to ultraportable usuage. And the higher price of the eee 900 is making it more unattractive.

Too much confusion I say.

@sydras: as per the specs, the HDD on the wind is a 2.5" i believe :D so better performance at least ;)

@funky: i have the EeePC, but have xp on it n not tried the linux interface. point is, he does most of his doc creating/modifyin etc on his desktop (Xp n MS office)

I know the E has openoffice but everything from MS office, esp powerpoint is not fully compatible with openoffice open formats, hence the problem. In case even 1 of the presentations has an issue, thats it :P

I am not too convinced how this baby will perform considering the fact that not only it has a hard disk but also more importantly the fact that Atom proccys have got some really bad reviews! So there is a big question mark over wind's performance!

@pat: i differ, kinda ;) considering that 2.5" HDDs are ok in perf, even if not as fast as SSDs. + a 1.6Ghz atom cant be all that bad :P where did u get those reviews? ;) its gotta be better than the current EeePC celeron 900Mhz underclocked to 630Mhz by default :D

@Funky: I did some googling and it seems open office is pretty compatible. I think i ll give linux a shot :D

^^According to initial benchmarks, the new Atom 1.6 GHz is actually SLOWER than the Celeron 900 MHz on EEE PC!

Do some googling dude ;)

dude.. pat r u serious?

its seriously hard 2 believe tat man!!

an even i think if an whn i buy this id rather want windows.. nt because i wont be able 2 use linux.. but because id like to run softwares ta way im used 2 them,, like msn messngr an stuff!!

^^Its true buddy! But those are just initial benchmarks..Just hope for better real-world performance atleast!

Tried the EeePC linux version yday n it rocks :ohyeah: decided to give it with the linux version + 8Gb SDHC + 1Gb RAM (> that requires kernel change + i doubt if any process on it will require that much RAM :P)

the price is 550$ mate, not 650 for the E 901  same price for linux n Xp. teh linux comes with 20Gb SSD, the Xp comes with a 12Gb SSD :D Lots of online retailers have it in stock or on preorder.

Amazon.com: ASUS Eee PC 20G (8.9" Screen, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pearl White: Electronics

Amazon.com: ASUS Eee PC 12G (8.9" Screen, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 12 GB Solid State Drive, XP Home) Pearl White: Electronics

EDIT: Oh, and no bluetooth :P tho i guess a 300 bucks dongle will do. What are those 3 USB ports for ? ;)

techie : dude ur talkin about ta eee 900.. which comes wit ta now old celeron processor.. im talkin about a new eeepc which comes out on 3rd june based on the atom processor and wit in built bt.. ! an asustek employee has said it would cost less than $650.

Seems theyr gonna upgrade models every time u blink ur eyes like nokia.. ;)

and i agree these models make the eeepc even more better.. but at the same time its driving the costs up like crazy..!! id still rather prefer ta old one for 300-400$..!

oops. sorry, my bad :ashamed: didnt know that was coming june 3. Then they are gonna have to drop prices like crazy if MSI can build up some volumes for the WIND :ohyeah: good for customers :) lets wait for reviews ;)

Me bought an E even though I know new models are coming cos i got a good deal on it :) + it should be ok for my purposes ;)

The 901 is too expensive @ 650$, even WITH Xp  Cos the similarly specced Wind WITH Xp is 550$ :D Only difference might be HDD, flash Vs 2.5" normal. Lets wait for performance reviews ;) Let the price war commence :yay:

how abt this sahara SNB 522434-EB with 8 inch tft 60gb harddisk 1.1 kgs weight its amd g-od lxs 800 processor and 4.5 hrs of battery life price 14999 any one have idea just got this info from paper today

the first time iv heard about ta sahara mpc.. lets hope they style it well .. going by their hertige its nt gonna be good lookin!! :) also it does seem a little highpriced.. i mean id rather get a asus for the same kind of money..

but hey the more the companies the better for the customer.. im just waiting for the mpc bubble to burst an prices to crassh!!!

The AMD Geode processor in the Sahara laptop runs at 500MHz, but consumes only 0.9W. The laptop will perform poorly but will have excellent battery life as listed. I doubt it will match the EEE PC or the Wind in terms of performance, but if battery life is important then its a damn good buy.

Raghu.
