The major problem I see here is the lack of a user changeable battery. The biggest consumer of ultraportables are professionals on the move, and they invariably buy extra battery packs (which this does not support, let alone user changeable). Sure, you may say that Apple is trying to expand the market, but at 1800 bux a pop, I don't think so.
1 USB port is way too little!
Lack of optical drive is not an issue - I have just about never used my optical drive when away from my desk....
I worry about screen quality too, but we'll find out about that as soon as someone actually sees it.

What's with Apple and their "user cannot change the battery" attitude ? Seems like they're making use of their monopoly on "cool" again :no: .

Look. The simple thing here is Intel is going to have to offer this chip to Dell and Sony and HP and all the others soon enough. And then they'll make light and small laptops too.

Intel cannot really manufacture it only for Apple. For one, if they do, they'll have unhappy OEMs (Apple may make Intel some money, but trust me, HP makes them a hell of a lot more) and it probably violates a bunch of contracts and antitrust laws...

HP probably has more real influence over Intel than anyone else. If HP decides to drop their Itanium line products(and I'm sure they're tempted to at times), Intel is basically completely screwed. It means tens of billions of dollars down the drain. Add to that the fact that HP is now the biggest computer manufacturer and well.... I think you see where this is going.

This isn't the first time Apple got something first. When the Core duo first came out, Apple was first to get it. And at that time, Apple's machines had great value. This is true of just about every machine Apple makes. BUT, Apple never drops prices until after a next refresh comes in... while all the others drop prices nearly immediately. So that means three after release, the Airbook will be maybe 50 dollars cheaper than it is now, while Sony, Toshiba and Lenovo are going to be a whole lot cheaper than the Airbook.
