Sony Ericsson w880i

[FONT=&quot]I have been using Sony phones personally since the Sony j7 days. I really loved the phone-jog dial, lime green light, light weight body and a good battery life. The only flaw was that even though the phone has infrared capability, it doesn’t have an infrared port on it (ahahahahahahahahahahahahah). But Sony has come a long way. The first sony ericsson phone made a debut on Die another day movie when halle berri used to blow up a place but that phone make any explosion on the market.

[/FONT] However the phone’s luck change after the launch a great classic phone the T610 and the T630 and later started invading the nokia’s seemingly powerful and dominated market. Sony Ericsson was known for many great things-from great battery life to great interface and camera (even the non cybershot versions). The all time legend is the famous k750i aka the granddaddy of the Cybershot series even though it wasn’t recognized as one, it did (and still) has the best quality in 2 mega pixel camera sections. Then came further branded phones in sony ericsson’s stable-the w series representing walkman, K series now representing high quality cyber shot camera and p series representing the business class heavyweight champs. There were rumours for bravia series and some pictures circling around in an orange clamshell design, though it was ages ago.

One of the phones I am showing is a phone which I am using, after my w700i seemed to have taken loads of pounding. It is the ultra slim wonder-w880i

[BREAK=The package-whats in the bag!!!]

The package: what’s in the bag!!!!

[FONT=&quot]The package was very basic: W series standard silver headphones with 3 earplugs, a charger with one more SE’S universal socket over it. The socket over the charger is a great idea; you can listen to the music and charge at the same time.

DSC00690.jpg

[/FONT] Same goes if you want to add the usb adapter. Other then socket idea, it’s the same….and one of the first 2 phones having an m2 card-this one has a 1 GB card; my mom’s phone which is w610i has a 512 mb. Booklet didn’t help much since I am a SE junkie for ages. And the maximum memory it can take is 4 GB while w610 is said to take 1 GB but I need to do some research on it.

[BREAK=The phone: MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE]

The phone:

Man this phone is freaking amazing, I began to doubt if there are any features in it. Before the software-see the stuff!!!!!

DSC00688.jpg

This is what I call a real sleek phone. There are 2 colour versions, one giving a classic look and another representing the colours of walkman series. The one which I have is a stainless steel brushed look on the front and rubbery feeling black part at the back, which in a way is pretty convenient. This phone is so sleek, Man I can even carry this in my wallet-for real. I read this review on what mobile months ago I couldn’t agree more-this phones packs a good punch that no1 could while making the slimmest phone.

[BREAK=Sony's entry in the stainless steel bandwagon and the small memory card]

The stainless steel bandwagon:

The stainless steel version of phones was started (to my knowledge) by Motorola’s original razr which became a hit after a huge price drop, but still didn’t have much in it. Then it was followed l6 and l7. After that it was Samsung, it’s the bulky looking (in the TV anyways) L.G. shine. Certain phones had something or the other missing. Like radio, or good camera and stuff like that. This phone almost gave a good package.

[FONT=&quot]This phone uses the new m2 versions of the memory for the phones. This is really something!!!

DSC00724.jpg

[/FONT] Just look at the size difference. Both are 1 GB but the m2 is as good as saying “the micro SD card version†for the pro duo card.

[BREAK=The camera-Lets get candid about the back and the sides]

This phone sports a 2megapixel camera-without flash or macro mode and auto focus (yes-not auto focus). Something which the w610 has at the cost of double the size of this phone-literally.

DSC00694.jpg

Like I said-this phone has that rubbery coat I talked about.

DSC00696.jpg

This is the volume/magnifier button which you have to use your finger nail.

DSC00697.jpg

Dedicated walkman button-that’s what separate w series from other SE models.

DSC00698.jpg

The interface is pretty much the same. It has the Shortcut key, internet explorer key, navigation buttons and the standard buttons. However if you switch to the walkman software, the middle one as usual changes to play, stop, left is rewind and right is fast forward.

This is the second version of the walkman software, however I didn’t find anything different other then adding trackid software which I don’t even use. This phone also uses a2dp software which syncs with wireless Bluetooth stereo headphones which are meant for music. I didn’t hear the clarity of the Bluetooth headphones since I am satisfied with the default ones.

[BREAK=The cons: Hit me baby one more time]

I found a very famous con in this phone-the buttons. It was a painful experience to get use to this phone. Especially for fat fingered man like me. They should have put a flatbed styled button for fatty’s like me.

[BREAK=The pros: Good phone-good point of view..and its a cliche]

When you see the screen brightness and the clarity on SE’S phones, its one of the best you will see. The photos and hi-def wallpapers can be seen with great detail considering the screen size.

That’s how the battery goes in-no clips necessary. I don’t need to talk about the battery life of this phone. It lasts 3-4 days with full charge.

[BREAK=Conclusion: Time to weigh the phone]

Well in the end, its a short review-reason is because theres not much difference between the w series phones we are using except the size of it. I didn’t much about what should I write about this phone, I mean….its like a slimmed out version of walkman series. Loosing weight without any performance loss seemed to be goal of SE. I will not take camera’s con since this is a walkman series phone. It doesn’t make sense giving a thumbs down for a phone which is bloody good for music and music only….except it does have a con in the music section-the phone doesn’t have a walkman!! What was sony thinking???? No radio in a walkman phone!!! I don’t listen to walkman-bunch of uncle and aunties talking out loud, but radio is a norm in a music phone. And this shouldn’t be an issue for SE. This leave a big hole in the review scores on my list and same on the what mobile-though they have given a 4 ½.
