No one? It's an awesome phone, with nice mods and ROM's out.. prefer it by a big margin to my Vibrant. If you get the Desire Z, please do yourself a favor and install a tweaked Sense ROM or a stock ROM.. I don't use Sense at all.. tried a Sense ROM but it has so much bloat..

Sent from my T-Mobile G2.

How different is the G2 from the Z? I know the radio bands are different, what else is there?

Z is loaded with HTC Sense.

doubt if G2 is !!

T-Mobile G2 vs. HTC Desire Z - GSMArena.com

will it be impossible to flash G2 with modded Z rom? (if G2 is considerably cheaper and easier to get)

have you considered Desire HD ?

im eyeing DesireHD as im very doubtful about sliders. You drop it once and bam!!

Nothing except for radio. Infact both even have the same 4 GB of internal NAND, out of which only 1.5GB is accessible. ROM's are cross compatible, if you go to Cyanogen Mod or MoDaCo ROM's, both say that the same ROM will work for G2 or Desire Z.

I flashed the Desire Z ROM on my G2, uninstalled withing 30 minutes, Sense is not for me..

Actually, there are already lot of custom Sense based ROM's for the G2. lol.

I suggest waiting for the Nexus S to come out. Schmidt, Google's CEO showed it off when he was carrying it at the Web Summit 2.0 interview. Then you can make a proper decision. If the Nexus S does come out, there is a high change that might be my next phone. Although I'm gonna miss the trackpad and most importantly, the hardware QWERTY a LOT.

madnav if u like the Z or HD get it .This is waiting game is never going to end first wait for Z then nexus S and what next ??

There is some news that HTC will launch the Desire Z and HD in the 2nd week of December. Z will be priced around 24-26k. HD will be prices around 28-34k.

24-26k? That's awesome, and I think they're trying to steal Nokia's thunder : The E7 is launching around the same time, and I think it will be a little more expensive. Decisions, decisions...

spec wise nexus S is great.

but i dont understand why samsung designs high end phones so badly and all plasticy :( (i mean, there were winamp2.xx skins which had similar finish :P)

are they trying to push armani designs by craping the corresponding normal one's ?

And how different are the keyboards? 4GB NAND inaccessible for both?
Keyboards are identical, and yes, whole 4GB is inaccessible. Apparently HTC's reserved it for radio and other stuff, maybe caching as well.

Nexus S will be out very soon. And the reason it's worth to wait for a Nexus phone is because they will get software updates as soon as its out ; no need to wait for manufacturer/carrier to release it.

Are you sure u wanna get that plasticky phone after you dumped it :P

If it's a Nexus series, then I have no choice. Will have to give up my hardware QWERTY and settle for plastic build quality.. cause the internal hardware and software are going to be awesome for quite some time. (until dual cores come out, that is. :P)

I also hope it has good battery life.. My G2 smokes my Vibrant when it comes to battery life.

I got a Tmobile G2 yesterday locally from Pune..

Apart from the hinge feeling a little delicate (esp compared to my old milestone), its quite impressive in every respect..

Battery life seems decent (30% after full day usage, and keep in mind that it was the first day with a new phone so it was used quite extensively)

All apps seem to fly and no lag noticed on anything so far (even google earth)

BTW I picked the set in the late evening and the store guy couldn't get the phone to find any networks after unlocking it with the lock code that he had for it.. He asked me to take it home and try unlocking it myself (and if it doesnt, he woud replace it)

A little bit of googling led to a rooting tool call gfree which also resolves this seemingly common problem of not getting a network post unlocking it with a SIM unlock code

^^Awesome! How much did you get it for ?? Am looking forward to getting a G2 as well! I will never EVER buy a Samsung phone again!

I'd buy a Samsung phone only if I know the software part is in good order. :P (Nexus S, that is.. their internal hardware is awesome.)

Yeah, the problem you faced is a known problem, unlocking via entering the code.

Luckily scotty2 broke all forms of security, Radio, HBoot, Super CID and SIM Unlock. The gfree tool you used disables all of that, so the phone is SIM unlocked, and S-OFF'ed as well. It's not exactly a rooting tool btw.. Read the XDA Vision Wiki for what all it does and steps of how to do it.

That's the thread you're looking for.

@Pat - The guy quoted 30k but was able to get it down to 28

Havent found anything to crib about with the phone so far except for the hinge (although it's nowhere as a bad as what posts over the interwebs would have you believe)

@superfrag - gfree is actually a rooting tool.. however, it does require su privileges, so it requires a temp root before you can run it to permanently root your phone
