Hello guys once again,

It is happening now. I am getting a new computer. My old computer just died infront of me and now I am getting a new one. I am getting 2 infact but only 1 right now. Since I don't have time to assemble one now... I am getting a configured Dell XPS 420 or HP Pavillion Elite 9000 series. I am getting to assemble one in April.

I just need help in choosing a few things here...

First of all... which monitor is the best?

I was thinking of the 20" UltraSharp Monitor but I don't know which one is the best out of all four...

Secondly... What memory?

I was thinking of the 4GB 667Mhz Memory.. I don't want the 800Mhz as that is too expensive...

Thirdly... What video card?

Any of the first 3 are in my price range...

Lastly... What base system?

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 or Q6700? I don't see much difference in the two?

Also... I was reading a review on this computer and it said that the HP Pavillion was cheaper and better in some areas... So which one? Dell or HP?

Thanks
Crazysah

Monitor dell , dont take the entry levels one as they are cheaper but not as good as ultrasharp ones

ram 4gig 800 mhz definately as they are just 200 bucks more than 667 mhz one for 1 gb

card has to be 8800gt from msi or anyother

q6600 as q6700 is quite costly and complete waste of money considering u can OC

well for processor go for q6600 as there's not much diff btween two

also q6600 is much better and can be easily OC'd if u planning to get it OC'd

Q6700 is waste as its costly

i think u shuld go for 800mhz ram .. its 1k smthing for 1 gb

for the gfx .. the best one right now is nvidia geforce 8800gts 512 (g92)

plz check the price in india ..

to all the people who have replied till now..: hes planning on configuring a desktop @ dell.co.in..

to Crazysah: heres my opinion on the questions asked by u:

1. Go for q6600 as q6700 costs bout 16k more which is a complete waste for the marginal performance gain. (also dont think bout overclocking ur proc as that would void the comps warranty)

2. Ram : get the base 2gb 667mhz ram from dell .. an later if needed upgrade it urself (as ram upgradation does not void warranty)

3. even for the monitor id suggest dont spend 6k extra on the ultrasharp ones.. i personally cant make out much of a diff unless they are kept next to each other an hence would rather recommend saving the cash..

4. even harddisk go for the base as you can upgrade it urself again without voiding the warranty.

5.in drives go for dual drives as its only 14 bucks extra.. hehe the blunders the guys at dell make sometimes..;)

6. for the gfx i feel the 8800gt 512mb @ 1.2k extra is the best option.. hehe again..;)

7. also select the bluetooth keyboard an mouse as its only 900 bucks extra which u recover when u select no mouse in the mouse section.. hehehe again an again..:)

8.if u get rid of the front avio ports an tv tuner (in case u dont need it ) u can save 5k's..

9.also do try an upgrade the warranty .. it comes in real handy an is the best part about dell products..

And finally id always suggest gettin dell over hp.. i personally find dell quality better than hp (though a lot of people here would disagree) ,, an also dell's onsite support is like the cherry on top..

Cheers Mate an hope u enjoy ur new comp!!

Edit: Consider the ati gfx card if u plan on connecting ur pc to a lcd/plasma as this card has hdmi out..

1. I agree with point number 1 too.
2. Why go for 2GB when 3GB and 4GB 667mhz is not that much more?
3. I still can't decide on the monitor... I can go for anyone except for the 24" one...
4. Hard Disk... I am going for the base.
5. Yes... I will go for the one for 14 bucks extra.
6. Nice choice on the gfx... I will go for that one...
7. Yes... I was thinking of the bluetooth keyboard/mouse
8. Where is the option to get rid of avio ports an tv tuner?
9. Also... yes... will choose a better warranty. Which do you recommend?

So basically... the bigest decision I have left is the monitor and RAM.

Thanks alot guys

Ans 2: 2gb to 3gb upgrade costs rs.3k an 2gb to 4gb upgrade costs rs.5k .. where as if u upgrade them urself u can get 2gb to 4gb upgrade for less than 2k..

Ans 3: monitor i feel is personal.. so think it over.. i personally dont give much of a damn over pic quality as for some reason i cant make out much of a diff..:bleh:

Ans 8: avio ports option is in floppy drive an media reader where if u dont select it u save 3k an tv tuner option is in more accessories wher u save 2k.

Ans 9: id suggest 3yrs complete cover..although decide after u get the prices for them.. if ther is a lot of price diff between 2 an 3yrs warranty extension.. then get 2yrs an haggle wit ta rep to give 1 yrs more free of charge..

and in the end always remm to haggle wit them.. they have a lot of space to go down on price..

Hope this answers ur questions!!:hap2:

Have you seen a S-IPS and TN panel side by side? I don't want to sound rude, but if you can't make out a difference then your blind in one eye :P

@ Crazyshah - Get the Ultrasharp any day! Compromise on something like the RAM but get a good monitor.

^ None of the options is a S-IPS. 20 incher is most probably MVA and the rest are TN. Not much of any choice there. AFAIK, they are no longer sourcing S-IPS 20" panels.

My bad, didn't see the link, but that P-MVA panel is still miles ahead of a TN.

@ amdlover - Your recommending a Samsung monitor to a person whose buying a Dell PC ;)

errr...i know Dell makes gr8 computers but aren't their PSU's proprietary (as in you can't add a third party one) ???

I wud say instead of spending extra cash on a pre-assembled rig, it wud still be wiser to spend the same booty on handpicked components.

btw, Penryn is at the corner now. In the next few weeks you may well buy a wolfdale E8200 for the same price as that of the aging E6600.

Even Dell will update their configs soon. Better buy a cheapo acer laptop if you can't wait.

with AMD out of the picture, it is unlikely that Intel will introduce the quad penryn yorkfields this year.

I guess the 22" SP2208WFP is the best option, just a wee bit dearer than the E228WFP

@Anish : heres wat i said right at the beginning:

3. even for the monitor id suggest dont spend 6k extra on the ultrasharp ones.. i personally cant make out much of a diff unless they are kept next to each other an hence would rather recommend saving the cash..

And as someone already qouted there are no s-ips option on the table,.. so now id rather suggest goin for a 22" rather than spending 6k extra an gettin a 20" only..

So I decided to get the 22" monitor.

One last question... How long does Dell take to ship? I live in New Delhi?

Thanks
