@greenhorn :trust me! Once I was outside kerala ,It took me hardly an hour to have my old Hindi learned in Pre-degree polished out :D . but then ,we were a generation where DD national was forced and we waited for chitrahar and all...yeah may be too old. also ,learning tamil = almost zero effort -some rough language in malayalam in a lazy way(no ,offense) ;) Kannada - very similar to tamil except in linking words. telegu = different .I felt like it is carpet bombing while we have whole telegu majority students during BE(engg) course.

If you know Hindi ,it is very easy to pick up panjaabi ,gujarathi and ofcourse Urdu. :D .but in south ,their exists difference due to the "Aryanization" of Languages. Tamil being the crude one.

^ but from our(south) perspective esp Panjaabi is very similar to Hindi :)

1. dont generalize for everyone

2. u mentioned something about tamil being crude. care to elaborate?

less sanskrit makes it crude?

/i dont know anything about the sanskrit content, but the assumption that less sanskrit = crude is offensive.. /

i hope the above line was not directed at anyone in particular.

who exactly are you referring to by
we can feel the crude

once again i would request you to not generalize opinions. if you have an opinion, have the balls to claim that it is YOURS. Do Not Generalize for everyone.

also, you do realize that any language anywhere in the world is going to have slang involved? local dialects...

I hope you have heard of someone called Thiruvalluvar... or for that matter Bharatiar.

If it would please you, i can very easily come up with cruder statements in Malayalam.

that is however not going to make a difference to anyone. please try to be a little bit more considerate and remember that you are not the only person posting on this forum

ps-you have a habit of making extremely arrogant posts under the assumption that what you are saying is correct. others have been very patient in trying to answer you. Others who are DEFINITELY a million times more knowledgeable than you(eg; chaos dada).

but you have no intentions of acknowledging that someone else might be correct and that you are wrong. this is a very very sad attitude to life you seem to have developed.

^Tamil

we can feel the crude nature.but Tamilians feels proud of their language and culture and the Dravidian nature of the language also too. :)

WE ?

who do you mean by WE

Yes! I meant Malayalees and non-tamilians only! :| .it is not a assault against Tamilians. I was just comparing dude!

oh! if still somebody feels I hurt their emotions ! I am asking Sorry! should I edit my posts ?

and below sentence is "dedicated" to all Tamilians:

" Vaazga Valamudan " " Tamizhan Entru Solledaaa ..Talai Nimirnthu Nilleda " - "pothuma " ?

dude , you can post that you feel that tamil is crude ( even that is debatable , since i feel it is offensvie) , but dont tar all non tamilians with the same brush.

To add to what greenie said. Just because something didn't originate from sanskrit...or doesn't sound sweet, doesnt make it crude. Its about 2k years old.

I don't know what you quoted on previous page...but anyway what you assume doesn't apply to all Mallu's.

I dont understand how can a language be called crude, theoretically anything that is old and outdated is crude, so in that case Sanskrit is the crudest language of all... Not even spoken anymore.

All said and done, I think Mumbai may be the only city in India, where if you can survive even without knowing a single word of the local lang (marath)i, btw any official estimates as to the number of maharashtrians in mumbai, for all you know they might be a minority here
