As for what category of plans they were, it doesn't matter. Simple thing is that if they got leaked to the wrong person, the targets get time to prepare, and even move away from the target sites. So it's obviously not supposed to go to a random journalist. Imagine if it went to some hamas sympathising leftist journalist that right wing people claim are all over US media.
It's like saying I dropped the baby but it didn't fall on its head so it's not a problem.
His team is on track to cut the US federal deficit by $1 trillion, accomplished most of tasks successfully.
His appointment comes with time limitation.
So, he is 'done' with his role. In any form, it's not 'self firing'.
