Hey,
Now that my friend's laptop has landed from the US, we just realized that it has a 110volt adapter.... what to do :)
Quick responses get a gold star :D

PS: Its a HP dv4 series

I suppose most laptops would have adaptors that would work with dual voltage 110V or 230V. But just make sure that it is so, otherwise it might fry the internal laptop components!!! In case it supports 230V, you only need a cheap pin-adaptor which will map the flat US-pins to rounded Indian-pins.

In an unlikely case that it does not support 230V, you will need a transformer (sold in electrical shop) to step-up voltage from 110V to 230V.

ok thanks :)

the question i have is... do you need a transformer, or can you directly use a 230volt adapter which has similar dc specs?

It is highly unlikely that a laptop adaptor is not universal. I have purchased several laptops in the past including HP from the states. They all were universal. You just require a "pin converter". This converter does not alter anyhting electrically, only allows the pin to be insterted in Indian sockets. This should cost around 20-30 bucks for a good one such as MX.

But still, do check that the adaptor mentions it supports 110-240 Volts to avoid any risk.
