CPU/Mobo Thermal compound HELP......

I have a MSI x58 pro-e motherboard with i7-930 processor..My idle IOH temperature is around 75.Planning on applying a thermal compound under the motherboard heat sink..I live in Chennai.Can anyone suggest which thermal compound to buy????:):)

Same motherboard, same problems. I already cleaned the TIM and applied the Noctua TIM I had and it decreased my temps by a good 15C. I went to every medical shop I found and none of them had Isopropyl Alcohol, I ended up buying it in Ritchie Street for 50 bucks.

Also you might need to use your nail to scrape some of that stuff off, it was stuck on to the chip like dried bubble gum in mine.

Also could you by any chance tell me what your idle and load temps on your i7 are? And its batch number?

Thanks.

Well, from my side +1 for MX2, I aplied on my C2D & NB, CPU never goes above 58, even on 100% load on stock cooler, idle at around 37-38.

You can also ask for rubbing alcohol, or surgical alcohol. Every chemist has them. It is needed for most basic things, like first aid n stuff.

MX2 and NH1 are great TIMs. But some TIMS are slightly better and is in another league, and are relatively newer, like the MX-3, TX-3, PK-1 etc. They costs more, and has advantage in viscosity, and maybe in thermal conductivity too, and might give a max of 1~1.5c difference.

But I dont think its worth the premium unless you are onto some serious 4Ghz+ OCing.

MX-2 and NH-1 are decent enough for sub 4Ghz Ocing.

I7-930 OC'ed to 4.3Ghz on stock cooler with turbo mode on...
IDLE=35
LOAD 100%=75:)
