Am curious why you prefer AS5 over the TF Goo even though the results put them off as fairly even (TR is marginally better, even the AS Ceramique seems better)

I have used Artic Silver ever since AS 2 and I still have a tube of AS 2 as well as AS 3 :)

I tried both AS 5 and the Thermalright GOOP on my CPU/HS and I saw a drop in temp of 2C with AS5.

I applied Ceramique on my 8800GTS + Thermalright HR-03 PLUS - I also tried AS5 on this combination and AS 5 kept the GPU temp about 2C lower. I have always used Ceramique on my GFX cards so that is in use on the 8800GTS even right now.

@Chaos - is this first hand info about the corrosion :O or from a forum ? Linky please if from another forum. I have a tube of MX 2 which I have not used yet - I was going to use it the next time I removed the heat sink. :).

@Rio - it has been mentioned a few times in other forums that if MX 2 is not applied exactly as recommended there will be an increase in temperature. I trust you must have done it the correct way - but check the instructions I have linked to in my post above.

Always prefer AS5 above all other thermal pastes. Just make sure to use the proper application technique depending on the number of your processor cores.

Apply the paste on the heat-spreader (a very thin layer, mind you) and then fit the heatsink on the CPU, making sure its securely fastened to the motherboard. You may wanna lift your mother board to your eye level/bend down to try and see through the opening between cpu and the heatsink to verify the seating.

What are you clocking? and when/how did you compare with AS5?

I always test at stock clocks, both on air as well as water... did the comparison tests about 2 weeks ago. Waiting to get my P5N32-E replaced and then I plan to do a shootout, I have some 6 or more different thermal pastes to test :)

EDIT: Here's a pic with some of them, I should be able to get my hands on a few more soon:

While we're on this subject, anyone who can lend me some Coolermaster paste for this shootout? Willing to trade :)

Interesting eh? I noticed the same 2-3 C difference between the TR paste and the AS5! It also means the thermalright paste is very good by itself.

Strange - I havent seen a review online which backs up this 2-3C drop - anyone has any links, especially at stock ?

Neither have I - but FWIW this is my experience - and thats what counts for me. :S

I am a total cleanliness freak and I do things by the book, so every application of the GOOP was exactly as recommended by manufacturer. I have about 6 tubes of the Thermalright GOOP and about 10 tubes of AS and Ceramique one MX2 and one Thermalright Chill Factor .... I am a GOOP hoarder. :)

Guess I know where to go for my next Goo fix :D

In case nebody's interested, i've got a brand new AS5 tube..unused and unopened...Actually, i'd got 2 tubes..i'm keeping one...so if neone needs it, pm me...:D

man it seems mx-2 stands nowhere then?? and guess what, i gave as5 a pass and bought mx-2 this time thinking i wud get better temps...:( , but still will use mx-2 and will then pass my personal verdict between mx-2, as5 and thermalright goop.

btw...OT : Eazy in one of your earlier post, you were talking about some adhesive goop?? can you tell me where to get it, i broke off the plastic shroud of sata connector on my 500gb drive, luckily the drive is still working but the hold is pretty lose, and now the pins are in real danger.

Artic Silver Adhesive costs around 1200 -1400 at Prime. I think this is for use on metals only.

I have a Hitachi 250GB HDD whose Plastic cover of the SATA Data connector I broke off by accident, I used a Hot Glue Gun and this is holding very firm - running the HDD right now - the nice thing about this Glue is that it can be removed with no sticky stuff left behind.
