Thermalright for your vid card

Coming from Thermalright, I fully expected a good performance from the V1. But I have to be honest, and the temperatures posted by the V1 made me shake my head in amazement. I expected a close race between it and the Arctic Cooling NV5, but in fact it was no contest.

From a noise perspective, it seems that Thermalright was very conservative with the noise figures stated for the 24cfm fan. Although rated at a not-exactly-whisper-quiet 31dBA, there was really no discernable difference in noise between the V1 and the NV5, which bodes well for those considering the V1 for a near-silent system

Nice..... am reading the review now...... but the main problem is that the RAM will be left uncovered..... Now, I know abt Zalman's RAM sinks but I think it should all be in a single package....

Nikhil posted 2.17 minutes later:

Ok......... the way this heatsink sits, there is no way anyone will be able to cool the RAM as well...... that is bad.....

hehehe lucky i was debating getting a vf 700 but kept putting off my descision to do so.. now i have something to add to my list of stuff to try :P

One of them is the memory cooling issue with nVidia 6800 series cards.

Issuse only with the 6800 cards :yay:

nd the tagline fits perfectly
*XP 90 for ur GPu*
Too bad for Masky, he got his silencer just a bit early

It is not such a big issue..... it is only abt the RAM. and if you use a second 80mm fan, then that problem is also half sorted out because the fan will blow air over the RAM.

its too big for me.
It will conflict with the big CPU heatsinks that we have today like XP-120 and ASUS Atarice.
There is no way there is space on A8N sli to have 2 cards using this and not conflicting with the CPU cooler like XP-120 or even XP-90.
Its a nice idea but they have neglected some very important issues.
There is no way uts fitting in here.

nah, not yet.
Its performing better than my old XP-90. And this is my 2nd system now. So i am keeping the starice in.
Even XP-120 will have same problems with this cooler with 120mm fan installed.
So will XP-90 with 92mm fan.
IMHO the design is simply wrong. Idea is very good but not practicality.

thats nice dude ..... have seen very few people with good experience with starice ....

Does that star ice cool the OCed CPU without making a loud noise or with noise.
also funky hat temps are u getting with star ice for ur venice oced at 2.5

Max i have ever seen is 46C full load on a very hot day on my 3200+.
With room tem close to 27C( AC on) 3000+ venice idles at 29C and Full load temp is only 33C.
This is bcoz of low voltages that i am running this venice on.

thats gr8 funky , so if i dont get xp 90 + tt
Then starice is what i will get.
but you havent mentioned anything about star ice's jet machine sound , is it silent
or noisy , also at what speed are you running ur star ice [i mean on regulator or its
thermal diode which decides the speed]

sorry for asking to many questions.

also is the star ice too heavy for the mobo or OK

dude it dosen't make any noise.......noise comes only after 3800RPM ......and taking it to 4800RPM(max speed) doesn't make any difference in the temps ...... mine temps are like 28- to 29 idle and max i have seen is 44 ....... and that without AC in room .....read my REVIEW

And this is the reason why Tom's review= crap.
DOnt know how they got such high temps from starice. Thought yes you need mount it carefully. If you dont tighten screws properly temp vary a lot.
HEh, what surprises me is this is TR product and it will conflict with their own Xp-120.
Zalman vf700 is still better practical design in my book. Its better than NV5-6, its universal which means it will be a good investment.
Also wont the top fan suck in the hot air from the CPU? I mean if you have hot CPU this may not work as good.

i had also problems with mounting that .....i thought that i have got a crap big kooler ....i also tried with removing the back plate but it works better with back plate ........ now i can say my investment was good .....
