Reason for Sale
I don't use it anymore
I bought this from a reseller in 2022. The laptop is in good condition, there may be some minor scratches on the body.

I'll list some elements of its configuration that prospective buyers may be interested in.
  • Display: 1080p non-touch, looks like a VA panel
  • Keyboard: US layout, non backlit, minor wear
  • RAM: 8gb+8gb sticks are installed
  • SSD: It comes with a Liteon 128gb sata m.2 SSD, the bay can take pcie 3.0 nvme SSD's too
  • Fingerprint scanner works seamlessly with windows, works with tinkering on linux
  • This model was impacted by a flaw in the Thunderbolt controller's firmware; the firmware on this one was updated as soon as I got it, and it has shown no signs of degradation or damage
  • The internal battery retains about 86% of its health (20 out of 24 Wh) after ~770 charge cycles
  • The external battery is not available and is replaced with a 3D-printed blank
  • It was last repasted in 2022, when I first bought the laptop

Thinkpad are always in good demand... All refurb company... Swap original parts with cheap replacement

Also paint the body and always feel sticky ..

They are just fooling people with ThinkPad name... Good luck ...

I see what you mean tbh. I've seen a few thinkpad keyboards that feel oddly cheap, and a common factor among them was them being bought off some refurbisher. Mind you, I haven't personally bought one off amazon yet and can't speak to them specifically.
Edit: I just noticed this, but some pictures in the reviews on amazon have a glossy display, while others have matte ones. The PSREF for that platform clarifies that the L480 was only available with matte (anti-glare) displays. This gives me reason to believe the refurbisher on amazon is using cheaper/worse quality parts.

As a side note for any interested buyers, the T480 I listed here doesn't seem to have any obvious cheap part replacements. I'm usually pretty sensitive towards keyboard quality, and it's great on this one - although you should note that the chassis (lid and bottom) is coated in a rubberized coating that dust loves to cling to.
