so i went to the Bang n Olufsen showroon at the hyatt yesterday after my friend told me they are the best in the business of sound. ( yes ive had countless endless arguments with him where i said they might be good but are way way wayy overpriced and i could build a system better sounding than it for a fraction of a budget but he just wont budge )
so we went there and the systems were good no doubt awsome but really expensive. i saw their top of the line system...7 speaker with i dont know how many woofers, dvd player ,amp and 59 inch tv for 45 lakhs.
it was really good but 45 lakhs????really???
now i want to show some other systems to my friend which hopefully will blow away the b&o's ( or sound as good and cost much less ). So which systems should i show him and where should i take him in bombay.
Also we are not buying any system but just for the ego sake of it are checking out stuff :D

Heh B&O are mostly lifestyle products i.e. stuff to show off. They sound good but you can do a lot better with the money. Head to either Audio Vision India or the Cadence Listening room in mumbai. Both will be better than B&O.

take a demo of some hi-end b&w equipment. i dont agree that b&o is the best. infact, no company can be singled out as the best.

If he is so impressed by the B&Os, nothing you show him will make him change his mind, except maybe something even more expensive and exclusive :P. You can try your luck at AVI. They have B&W, Wilson and Martinlogan. Very impressive looking stuff :) Auditions only by appointment - how's that for exclusive? :ohyeah:

Actually the B&O systems are extremely well-built, not to be confused with the Bose-Os of the world.

The Beolab 5, for example, is hailed by Sigfreid Linkwitz as being one of the most innovative controlled directivity speakers in the world. With over 1000 watts of ICE power (B&O is the inventor of this technology which is now used by Jeff Rowland and a host of high-end audio manufacturers) and flat response to below 20 Hz from a speaker with very high WAF, is no mean feat. As some of you know, it uses self-calibration and room measurement techniques with an inbuilt microphone and DSP to correct its frequency response depending on the nature of and placement in the room. It is still bested by Linkwitz Orion at 1/3rd the price, but DIY isn't for everyone anyway. But in commercial speaker terms, it's still leagues ahead of (say) the Jamo R909, itself a very good speaker.

I'm less inclined to believe that their TV products are pathbreaking, but I could be wrong. And just like any other boutique brand, they will offer entry level products and technologies that overcharge the naive and offer no value beyond that of their badge. But the truly good stuff is the truly good stuff, and I would kill to have a pair of Beolab 5s. Seeing that they cost in excess of $16,000 (~8 lakhs) a pair, I may just have to do that.

Dude you could also buy a Mazda R7 and modify it. So It'll have 500 bhp; and crack the 300 kmph mark with a 10 sec quarter mile.

You still won't get the same attention as a dude in an Enzo would you?

Their stuff is excellent; but they're upmarket lifestyle. Like Armani suits and Rolex's.

I hope you get the bigger picture; maybe you could build a Koenigsegg-like car for 400,000$. If I had the cash I'd still go with my 1 million+ Enzo :P

^^Sangram; i was actually considering the Beolab 5 for my place in Jub; I was willing to even go up to 10L a pair; but 16L was just too much.

OT - the new Koenigsegg 2008 - Koenigsegg CCXR Edition (2008) with pictures and wallpapers
1018 horses; phew!

i actually auditioned the beolab5 itself at their showroom . they were actually quite good ..i saw a movie in surround with those 2 as the main speakers and i also heard music on stereo. movie experience was exactly theater like but i wasnt much impressed with music.
