90K+ Time to replace my aging PC

    • Corsair Vengeance 8*2 1333

    • Dell ST-22 and ViewSonic VA-1903
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Not sure if anything apart from Monitors and HDDs can be used
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU - Intel 13400F or Ryzen 7600
    • Cooler for CPU if the stock one is not good enough
    • Motherboard - any DDR5 compatible motherboard, (Will wifi on mobo be better- have to switch between two connections?)
    • GPU - RX6700 or RTX 3060
    • PSU - Best Power Supply Units
    • 16*2 DDR5 not sure of bottlenecks latency etc for other preferences
    • Case - Best adequate case, cooling is the main concern- no issue if it does not have glass view or fancy lighting just needs to have at least 1 USB port of type A at front
    • 1TB SSD/NVME, rest of the drives I will use from my old systems
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

If you aren't set on a DDR5 generation system, you can probably save a ton of dough going the AM4 + Ryzen 5700X route. Your requirements are not very high for processing power.
The processor would be very similarly priced, but you can easily save a total of 10K on RAM and Motherboard.

Looks good I don't mind spending more on PowerSupply and Cabinet, my place gets quite hot in Summer

What would be the approximate performance difference between those configurations? a rough number as I intend to run some Virtual Machines

Should get a gold rated tier A PSU and better SSD. Both of these would not cost much from these recommendations.

Both are 16 thread CPUs. So may be similar for virtualisation and VMs. The 6p4e16T configuration of the 13400 might get a minor advantage.. but probably not enough to warrant a 10k increase in overall cost.

ASUS Prime B550M-A Wifi is 11.5k, that's a 6k saving.

32 Gigs of 3200 MT/s DDR4 might be like 6.5k odd.
That's another 3.5k saved.

Can put this to better GPU or as others suggested, an A tier PSU.

Additionally, the 5700x should be much more power efficient and if the machine is going to be 24x7, it might be better in the long term on running costs as well.
 
For VM's avoid Intel P core & E core. Stick with AMD, just my 2 cents. If these VM's are alive 24/7 there is no better desktop CPU than the 7900 with 2 watts per thread efficiency at full load. PSU gold, platinum or bronze makes even lesser sense in my eyes but a good power supply is a must. For watching TV whatever others said.

I'm sold on Ryzen 5000 build, I came up with the overall system in the link below, please let me know if any changes are required. I have selected parts based on other recommendations while going through some other threads or the cheapest available

7900 build is well above my budget, 5700x feels sufficient

Would recommend 3600 CL16, but somehow availability seems to be low, especially of you're looking for RGB. I got a pair of Crucials from the classifieds section here last month, but they don't seem to be available now.

Swap out the motherboard for a cheaper one like the MSI B550 PRO VDH or Gigabyte B550 DS3H, it has most of the features that the Asus board has. You could go for a cheaper case like the Ant Esports Ice 100 or anything under 4k with 4 pre installed fans and a front mesh.
 
I recommend ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS MOTHERBOARD (non wifi) at 13k, and buy wifi module from here. You can save 3k 4k that way

I am still unsure of what to look for in motherboards

I will buy wifi module separately as suggested

Wondering if RX7600/RX6700 non XT is going to be sufficient for my requirements as its also less power hungry or is it bad

If it has the sufficient amount of USB ports and M.2 slots (for SSD) that you need, then it's a good motherboard. The motherboards I suggested lack a few USB ports compared to the one you had in your build but its good enough. Both motherboards have 2 M.2 slots and 4 DIMM slots for RAM. The Asus motherboard has a better audio codec, but this is of little significance if you're not obsessed about audio.

Also, make sure that the motherboard you're planning on getting has the updated BIOS to support Ryzen 7. This can be clarified by asking the vendor.

RX 7600 actually draws more power than the RX 6700. If you don't need 7600'S AV1 encoding, then the RX 6700/XT is a better choice.

Thanks. Isn't it better that way, keeping things simple? I mean what's the point of the efficient cores to start with? Does it offer any advantage for gaming?
I've read the reviews of both but still unable to understand in simple terms
