Finally getting an upgrade from my Razr V3i, should i get the 5800? Looking at the majorly mixed up reviews of the phone, I've got a doubt now(had none!) whether to get it or not.. need ur help in getting a phone around that budget.. have a zen 8gb, so music is not primarily the main option I'm looking for.. and no E series phone either!

TIA~

Here's my opinion...Borrow it from a friend, use it for a day and see how you like it. The thing is most people expect an Iphone Killer when they go to buy the 5800. If you are thinking on the same lines then don't.

A little advice........

If you are going to borrow it from a friend and see it... do it for at least some few hours or if possible, some days. The reason is that, if you are new to touch, it will be a little difficult for you to navigate. But once you get used to it, you will feel like "How you lived without touching " a beauty like this :ohyeah:

@Fahrenheit, never intended to buy this as an iPhone killer.. was impressed by the boatload of features its got and the price is perfect...

hesitation started coz of Mathew's thread after he said the phone died when trying to upgrade firmware.. I think my dad'll kill me if that happened! pay 18k for a phone n next thing u see its dead, no way.. is there a surefire way tat i can upgrade firmware without bricking it? any links would be appreciated, tat way i know wat i'm getting into..

Well, you can always give it to Nokia Care for upgrading the firmware. If it is within warranty, they wont charge any money and if something happens during the upgrade, they will take full responsibility for that.

The only problem with this method is that you may be asked to keep your phone with them for some time, maybe 1-2 days but you wont have any fear of bricking your phone.

upgrading is not that hard but if u r not used to mobile upgrading then better give it to nokia guys for upgrading. When I was upgrading I had a few issues but I sorted it out.;)

Upgrading should not be an issue. I do not own a Nokia 5800, but I know for sure that upgrading firmwares is very easy. There are hundreds and thousands of people upgrading their FW every day, it's only that the botched up ones get highlighted. :)

Don't worry about upgrading. As the others said, just get it done at the NC centre. Also do try the phone first. The phone has gotten really good after v20. The next one will improve the camera even further afaik.

Ty all for the inputs, i bought it couple of hours ago for 18.2k for the black/blue one.. sadly the firmware is v10.. now will have to pray and update..
>.<

Could someone suggest me what screen guard to buy? The showroom ppl offered something called Scratch Guard in a red cover.. said it was recommended by nokia themselves.. costs 350 bucks.. is it too expensive? :O

get gadget shieldz. amazing thing. Just wait for a week or so. As their current design has a major flaw of blocking the proximity sensor. When ordering do make sure you check whether the are sending you the rectified design or not.

Successfully updated the firmware.. still a lil problem with the scrolling.. called up tat guy, he says the default screen guard is the problem.. anyone else facing problem with scrolling?

ty pisen.. guess what guys, the scroll part of the touch screen had a problem.. i thought it was coz of the default screen guard tat has the groovy lines on it.. even after i got another screen guard same problem.. the place where i bought it from have said that they'll try getting it replaced if not repair is the only solution.. they also told me that if usage was below 1 hour they could've applied for DOA and instant replacement.. but the usage was at 1hr 45mins.. another 5800 down.. my first high end phone crapped! :(

Well... what exactly was the problem with the scrolling??

If it is a manufacturing defect, you can very well claim the warranty.
