I live in Kolkata and I thought kolkata was one top developed and advanced metro cities in India. Now my friends who have gone to colleges in cities like pune, delhi mumbai, chennai, noida, bangalore etc tell these cities are much more developed than kolkata......i have never been to these places and was wondering what the most developed city in india at current moment.

edit
after searching images in google bangalore has really tall buildings......tallest i have seen in kolkata is 30 storeys

I wouldn't put Chennai and Noida in that list. Chennai and Kolkata are on par. Noida is really a small place, I wouldn't call it a metro, but then it is treated as an extension / part of Delhi and so that kinda rubs off on its status.

Developed and advanced in all areas both good and bad and hence net effect is go to villages to enjoy life.

Example - Delhi - technology developed along with development in kidnappings and other ills.

Anyway it differs upon people to people. For me its always home no matter what other cities offer.

Bangalore is more developed than Chennai but the population/area is small because of the IT clusters. The culture is also more developed than Chennai.

Top Indian cities based on corruption?, then nothing can beat good Bangalore ,

Everything here is a mess, screwed govt officials who need bribe for everything , no roads , no water , no development from past 3 years, politicians busy with scams and fighitng for chair , too much road rage , no night life ( city has to sleep at 11PM ). Heck at times i feel i did a mistake coming back from NZ

yup, i did my college(SRM) in chennai and i have stayed in bangalore for my business work too. i feel the way the people live, culture(not tradition but more morden) is more developed

Hello, @OP please get out of Calcutta if you've lived all your life in it. You'll do yourself a big favour.

I strongly oppose this. UP rules in this department. OK, may be Bihar gives tough competition, but we have pros here, with years of experience

All the cities have their charms, good points and bad points. I've lived in Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore. If you leave the tech parks, Bangalore and Kolkata are almost similarly developed. Bangalore is a newer metro, so buildings/parks are obviously newer. But again, roads are pretty narrow, living cost is more than double than that of kolkata. On the plus side, the weather is much better, safety and security may be a bit better, no political hungama nor any strikes. I can go on with the list but the point is every city has its trade off.

@OP: Are you referring to infrastructural development? Then yes, Bangalore and Hyderabad would score over Kolkata there. I can tell about Bangalore that it is an unplanned city, with serious power and water problems (a failure on two of the basic amenities, where to me Kolkata counts). Every city will have its own pros and cons, which you need to experience by going out. However overall IMO, none of the Indian cities are developed considering we had 65 years of time to manage and build a country. As per the Corruptions Perceptions Index, India is one of most corrupt countries in the world, which has hindered its progress in the world map. Poor have remained poorer, rich richer and politicians corrupt.

I believe a simple clubbing of all cities is incorrect. It should be on the basis of Metros, Tier 1, Tier 2, etc..

Oh, and judging by the choices given, I see South India only has 3 cities. I'm assuming down south we all stay in villages.

^^ Actually theres only 1 city called Madras. The other SouthIndians stay in villages in and around Madras, thats why all of them are are simply called Madrasis. People from villages like Bangalore/Hyderabad think they are from their own "city" and dont like being called Madrasis, but whatever. The truth always wins.

And where is Chandigarh? I know its not a metro but one of the planned cities in India. Infrastructre is very good, life quality is good too.

I think the list is a fair representation as far as TOP indian cities are concerned, Noida should probably be replaced by Chandigarh. Just putting the thought out there.

edit: @sharktale1212 got there first :)

Also, developed has nothing to do with just Tall buildings. Sure Metros, Cosmos will have high rises. There are tons of cities around the world which are more prosperous and "developed" and don't have too many High rises.

@OP quite a few of my Bong friends don't want to come back to Calcutta (Only during Pujas).
sabby - What you say makes a lot of sense, but I don't agree. You haven't seen Calcutta. It's not just B'lore's Tech Parks. People from around the world flock to Calcutta to witness its Poverty and Chaos. Calcutta has a lot of immigrants and developed area is quite less compared to Bangy or Delhi. Not to mention how old the buildings are, they can become monuments in the next decade :) New areas are under development though.

There are extremely lovable places in Calcutta, too.

There is no mention of 'charm' here, which I think each of our 4 metros have in plenty. There can be hundreds of sky scrapers, but a city is made up of its people and their culture (or lack of it in some cases).

why do people still call kolkata "calcutta";) even we dont call it that:lol:.....anyways developed meaning all round developed....good hospitals, schools ,industry .cultural developement, infrastructure, job oppurtunity....you know a city where people would not say need good hospitals? goto xx city, need good job? go to yy city, want to be an artist, actor, writer?go to zz city....a city which is all round with theaters ,malls, tech parks, health care, entertainment, and economic growth .......i know some cities are good at some particular thing better than rest but the top cities have all these qualities to some respect.......for example kolkata has film industry, growing IT industry, a port, cultural heritage, lacking in infrastructure and poverty and poltical unrest maybe but it is an importtant city in india
