Any one tried this out yet?

Its very good fun, the gameplay is the exact copy of diablo 2, infact its like playing Diablo 2 in Warcraft 3 graphics :) Played 1 hour or so, and I must say the game is very deep you actually have dual character inventory modes!! (IE you can equip the main character in 2 modes which can be interchanged quickly).

The game in its current avatar is quite buggy, you will need to play in Win XP compatibility mode, plus the save game/load game options are missing :S

Aces, have you played Titan Quest? It's generally considered a much better (infact the best) all-round Diablo 2 clone.

I have been playing it non-stop for 2 years now and I can safely say that no other action RPG except TQ holds a candle to D2 (not even D2 itself in 2009 :P).
The class system is unique in TQ as you can combine any 2 masteries out of a total 9, which in turn defines your actual class. So in effect, there are a lot of different permurations for the type of character you want to create and the type of gameplay you want to pursue.
Dual-classing has been very common in D&D RPG's, but this is the first time it was done in an action RPG.

D3 will have to measure up to TQ now and Blizzard just has to incorportate some of the best features from it (skill point reallocation, painless item transfers, crafting of powerful and incredibly rare artifacts).

Witcher isn't an action RPG. It's more of a D&D RPG lite with heavy focus on the story and immersion factor (like KOTOR).

Action RPG's tend to have cookie cutter storylines and simplistic gameplay focussed on clicking for better loot.

Read up a bit more on Torchlight and the art style interests me a lot! Gotta try and get my hands on this one.

The dual inventory modes you speak of were there in Diablo 2 as well, or do each of the 2 modes allow for entirely different equipment and not just weapons?

And what do you mean a save/load feature is missing? Is one expected to finish the game in one go :P?
Action RPG's usually have a waypoint system in place of a traditional save mechanism, I expect the same to be the case here.

been playing it for past 3-4 days...nice way to pass the time waiting for D3

Have TQ installed, but havent really given it a go, do have a look at torchlight its really good just crank up the difficulty to hard atleast easy and normal are just too easy.

Regarding the 2 modes, ok missed this too but its only for weapons.

And yep it does have a way point, I missed it completely. If you play the game you will know what I am talking about its a little buggy, with minimalist control help. But the gameplay is just simply superb, especially the skills you acquire after sometime, its just not eyecandy, there are a lot of strategic permutations and combination, I see spending considerable time on this game in the next few days. This game would have got a much higher rating if not for the bugs, but with patches and fan made mods I am really looking forward to this.

Hated Sacred 2, but somehow I love rts/rpg hybrids like dota clones, Spellforce 2, Demigod etc but never got into any of the plain rpgs yet. Fantasy setting = best for games. Might give this one a go considering the filesize :D

This game is developed by ex-employees of Blizzard North, and it has got positive reviews from most of the reviewers.

Will definitely try this game!

Nice little ARPG with some very ingenious skills and spells, like that spectral armor that can attack nearby enemies.
Awesome music as well :).

if its anything even remotely like diablo 2, like you all have said, i m gonna enjoy this game.

got tired of waiting for D3 so definitely going to give this a shot

Its an okay timepass, nothing more, nothing else.
Titan Quest was waaaayyy better, gameplay wise.

Nothing comes close to D2 for the sheer storyline and immersiveness, I still play it casually now and then. If only I could get the game in a higher resolution!!

Torchlight was made by some of the original creators of Diablo. Even the background score was done by the same guy(guitar string + drums effect, etc).
But it gets boring quickly. Skill trees are very lacklustre.
I have played it for a week, got 2 characters to lvl 30+. I cant see myself going through the same grind over and over again. Also boss fights are simple, click and hold, no strategy or risk involved.

Just my 2p :bleh:

Yes very reminiscent of Diablo series including the new Diablo 3 that is to release next year.

+ It can run on older HW easily

+ It's easy and fun to play

- It gets repetitive real fast, I gave up after I reached level 25

Advice if playing Torchlight:-

1. Download the 1.2 version as the initial version has a lot of issues, kept crashing at start itself. The 1.2 version is not a patch is a almost a rewrite of the underlying code, therefore the download is as big as the game itself.

2. Be very careful of the "Old bugger who Enchants ITems" in themarket. He can also De-enchant them depending on the luck rate. I had my staff which was +538 damage with several enhantments in it to go down to 328 damage with zero enhanments..OUCH!!! But he can give awesome stuff...it's always a gamble with the old bloke.
