Its an okay timepass, nothing more, nothing else.
Titan Quest was waaaayyy better, gameplay wise.
Agreed, Torchlight doesn't seem to have much depth compared to Diablo 2 or Titan Quest. It's still too early to judge though.
Nothing comes close to D2 for the sheer storyline and immersiveness, I still play it casually now and then. If only I could get the game in a higher resolution!!
Get the D2 high resolution hack here :). Don't use it on B.net, you will get banned.

Torchlight was made by some of the original creators of Diablo. Even the background score was done by the same guy(guitar string + drums effect, etc).
Infact the background music in the town of Torchlight is near identical to the one from the Rogue Encampment in D2.

Thought of giving this title a shot after having played Deathspank and Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue recently. Besides, Torchlight II is soon approaching. But before I begin the title, I would like to know how long does it take for completion? Deathspank and the expansion was fairly short for an RPG title I may add - roughly 10~12 hours for each with almost 90~95% game completion.

Is the storyline something similar to Trine but the added 3rd person camera perspective + RPG elements - is that it?

Getting addicted to the RPG genre gradually. Heck, no other genre gives us as much satisfaction as this one after completing the titles. But it consumes a LOT of time unfortunately. :(

Just play Titan Quest if you want a good action RPG until Diablo 3 releases.

Torchlight has almost no depth and is just a mindnumbing clickfest.

Isn't Titan Quest a bit too old considering it was released almost 5 years back? The graphics might suck!

I wanted to play Torchlight since the sequel is coming up. :(

PS: Haven't played the previous Diablo titles since I wasn't into RPG genre much.

Torchlight is very long if you want to 'complete' it, in the sense that you make it to the last boss in the main dungeon. But, this is a roguelike, meaning there are other dungeons which are infinite. So, you cannot actually complete it. Anyway, if you are not a hardcore fan of the Diablo style clickfest genre, then you wont even make it through the main dungeon. It is more similar to Diablo 1 than Diablo 2. I'd suggest you play it with a higher difficulty than normal, since it can get too easy otherwise.

Storyline is nothing like Trine, it is almost exact copy of Diablo 1 along with the background music. Only the art style and some gameplay elements have been changed.

Titan Quest might be old, but the graphics still hold up in my view. The engine is still quite good. They are actually making a new game on the same engine called Grim Dawn.

^Thanks for that info! :)

Let me give Torchlight a shot then. So how exactly is the completion achieved? I mean there must be some primary objective(s) right?

I suppose the game supports the X360 controller natively?

Judge for yourselves. If not for Diablo 3's superior art-style, I'd say TQ beats even that shaders and texture quality wise.

But the best part of TQ is the items itself. The gear that you find in TL never got quite epic enough to justify spending hours huting for it.

The itemisation is actually one of the aspects for which TL gets criticised a lot. It is sort of too randomised. So, you might get a really awesome item right of the bat and probably never find an improvement for it.
