I have heard that the mobo and CPUs are anti static devices. What happens if one touches the CPU for installing it in the motherboard without holding a metal body first? How much of a bid deal is it?

Because I just bought a mobo & CPU and the sales guy checked the working condition before delivering and the way he handled them both was a little rough. And he did not touch any metal body before installing the CPU.

Static Electricity is an issue which generally occurs in dry climates. If your body is statically charged and you touch any conductive surface (mobo, CPU, RAM) then the electricity discharges through the surface. This electricity can be harmful to the component as you have no way of knowing whether it is within the operating limits of the component.

If the installed CPU is working fine in your system then you need not worry about it. If static electricity has any effecton the component, it will be completely dead. Precaution is always better, so take care when handling the CPU parts yourself.
