Waze, a popular navigation app based in Israel has been acquired by Google.

Waze is a community-based navigation app that uses real-time traffic updates from other app users, helping you find better routes and avoid traffic jams.

Google plans to enhance the Google Maps with some of the traffic updates provided by Waze and enhance Waze using Google's search capabilities.

Waze said in its blog post,
Larry Page, Brian McClendon and the Google Maps teams have been following our progress closely and are excited about what we’ve accomplished. They share our vision of a global mapping service, updated in real time by local communities, and wish to help us accelerate. We are excited about the prospect of working with the Google Maps team to enhance our search capabilities and to join them in their ongoing efforts to build the best map of the world.

The acquisition price was not revealed but it is around 1.3 billion according to reports. Waze team will remain in Israel and continue to operate separately for now.

The app is available from Google Play store for Android and App Store for iOS devices.
