Transfers too slow

Hi guys,
Installed win 7 RC last night.

Installation went fine but cudnt configure internet as my connection is thru RasPPPoe software (will get it solved by cable net guy today)

My problem is when I tried to copy something from my DVD drive to Hdd, the transfer rate was like 2mbps :S

Thought perhaps the mobo drivers weren't installed therefore the transfer rates sucked. SO tried to install mobo drivers but they were incompatible with Win 7.

My config is AMD Phenom II 920, Asus M3A78-EM, 4 Gb 800 RAM, Seagate 500Gb, WD 320 Gb, Nvidia 8600GT.

Any solutions???
 
I think you are correct, due to mobo driver being unavailable, possibly DMA may not be available and transfer is with PIO resulting in slow speed. Try google for a third party driver for your chipset.

hmmm... i always thought that tweaking transfer speeds was a BIOS thingie:)

Another friend has a PC based on core i7, his internal transfer rates from hdd to hdd is 40mbps.

where is there a prob??

am sure my system isnt outdated.
 
Check if dma is enabled both for the dvd drive and the hdd..and optimize for performance is selected, if there is such an option is the device properties..
 
installed drivers for mobo using compatibility mode.

Transfers improved a bit but not optimum.

internal Hdd to external (USB based) Hdd about 15-20mbps

usb to internal Hdd about 5-6mbps

internal Hdd to internal Hdd about 30 mbps

still dont undersatnd why internal transfer is so slow
