MS research is a unit of MS... they work to create stuff for MS... (though they do not always do stuff directly in line with MSes interest - something they learnt I guess after they supported Xen which competes with the now MS acquired Virtual PC. Funnily enough, they no longer have anything to do with Xen). And a lot of MS's propaganda at one time originated from the head of MS Research. (Some guy name whose started with an 'R' was it? Can't remember).
Still, at least MS research is a step in the right direction. And Mr Chaos has a PhD in visualization or something graphics related. Obviously he needs 6800s and x800XTs. Intel 915 just won't do.
