Guys,
I am trying to install Windows 7 RTM Built 7260 on my Laptop. But Unfortunately I have been getting BSOD just after I boot into the installer. I am doing a fresh install

Error Msg
STOP: 0x0000008E
System Config:
Lenovo/IBM thinkpad R61i with 1.5GB RAM
Currently, Trying I am trying to see if Upgrade works. any pointers in this regard would be appreciated
Thanks

Is the HDD in SATA AHCI/ Compatibility mode? Try changing that and see.

Thats a problem with the rams mostly.

I had the same issue when i had 6 GB rams (G-skills 4 GB and OCZ 2 GB) connected. The moment i removed the OCZ stick it started working fine.

When i did a memtest on the OCZ, it failed. Now, i am not telling you to jump to conclusions but to prove this, i tried a different media, a different disc altogether and also a different DVD-writer. It happened the same.

Right when the first loading bar ends i got a black screen of death.

Win 7 installation gives BSOD on my lappy, and desktops, while same things gets installed easily on my frens PC.:S
dun know why.
my all systems are running vista in breeze.:cool2:

I'm still working with win7 x64 build 7100 with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Planning to upgrade to 7260 in a couple of weeks after I get my hard disk

It was in AHCI mode when i got that error. I also tried it running in Compatibility mode, but same error.

I think its not a RAM issue, as vista is working fine on my Machine. Still to double sure, I ran "Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool". it was completed without any error. We can safely rule out memory errors:hap2:

What Else I can try?

Right now I am thinking of trying RC Built 7100, but downloading 2.3GB on 256kbps would atleast take 24hours to download:|

Try another clean install of the same copy you have. Remember win7 is still in the dev stage. It will have issues. But each new build usually will be more stable than the previous ones. If you do want to download a new copy, I'd suggest you go in for the latest build. Its 7264. I just did this morning. Search the torrents. Or,if you want, you could try to upgrade to the rtm version once its out

I am starting to believe that its bad built as I got same error on my dad's laptop as well, its a completely different machine in fully working state. so i think something is wrong my win7 itself

btw, I am installing via USB pendrive & the the release info is as under:

WINDOWS 7 BUILD 7260 WIN7 RTM X86 EN / RU

Year: 2009

Version: 6.1.7260.0.win7_rtm.090612-2110

Granted 7260 x86 VHD: gaze

Language: English / Russian

Platform: 32 bit

See if that information helps to identify the problem

Actually I was using Built 6881 till date, Till now no errors or BSODs what so ever apart from few IE8 crashes. since its ending, I need a change:)

whats your graphics card ?? if its add- on card ,try to remove it ,then install.

once i got the problem when i was using 9400GT ,later the problem was fixed with next update

I dropped USB install method and now going old-school.

* Rechecked the file downloaded from uTorrent.

* Extracted whole thing again with different Client(7Zip)

* Burned it on DVD-R @ 8x speed & did data verification.

* Then I am doing a fresh install after deleting full partition now; as we talk.

Thankfully there is no BSOD till now, Hope install completes without errors.

Fingers Crossed:S

Instalation was successfull, seems it was a issue with USB install method. thanks all for helping.

just one more quick question?
Which free antivirus for Windows 7?

I installed AVG free edition, hopefully it would keep all malware at bay.

Install it along with avg no biggie..
You'l see it detects faster than AVG and quarantines them..
