Twinmos PC3200 400Mhz DDR(2x512MB) Ram Review

Introduction

Again i am back with mine new review. This time i am going to review Twinmos ram. As this ram is said to be best overclocker in indian market right now. So i thought a review might help other users in purchasing ram. I got this ram around 1 month ago for 2450/- for a single stick. It comes with 3 years warranty. If u want more information about the Twinmos company please click here. This ram uses Mtec memory chips. which are good for overclocking (i mean good in value ram segment don't compare it with BHx or TCCx chips). Another value overclocker ram available in india is hynix D43 chips, but there are too many fake models of that and also it needs very relaxed timings to overclock so i think currently twinmos is the best if u want to overclock.

Packing

I got this ram in a normal plastic pack which was sealed. Opening was very simple. Also there is hologram of twinmos on the memchips to make id different from the fake ones. After opening the pack i taken out the ram chips. It is a dual side DDR.

full2ut.jpg

This is the pic of the ram outside the pack. On the left side there is the twinmos hologram and on the right side there is a sticker where all the model nos and stock timings are written. if u can't read it in the pic, i am writing it down for u.

P/N: M2G9116AJAMK9F081CADT
MODEL NO: M2G9J16A-MK
SN NO:XXXXXXXXXXX
PC3200(CL 2.5 512MB DDR DIMM)

Here u can see in the first line CADT is written which means it is having Mtec power ram chips.

[break=Installation]
Installation

Installation is pretty simple. Same as all other DIMMs u have to just insert the ram into the slot. and make sure latches are locked. But in mine case it was a bit difficult. I first fitted the monster size ASUS Starice on the mobo then i tried inserting the ram i found it was fouling with the CPU cooler . First i thought i would put it in the second slot better than removing the starice and fitting it again. But after little bit or trying i manage to put it in the first slot. Then again the problem started when i got mine GTX. As, i wrote in mine GTX review. but its a ram motherboard design problem rather than ram. Here are some pics of ram installed in mine mobo.

Test setup

A8N SLI Premium
AMD 64 3000+
TwinMos DDR 400 2x512
Seagate 80GB HDD
Powersafe 500w
DirectX 9.0c
NVIDIA FordeWare 78.03
Windows XP Pro SP2

I have used 5 setting for testing the ram. here are the description of them. i have also added screenshots of CPUZ to better understanding of the settings.

Setting 1
This is the stock setting of the ram with 2.5-3-3-10 2T timings. Memory voltage is 2.65v.
Setting 2
In this setting i have used tight timings in the stock setting. Max i was able to reach was 2-3-3-6 1T. any tighter than this and system hangs at the bios page. Memory voltage was same here 2.65v.
tightcpu0td.jpg

tightmem0yt.jpg

Setting 3
In this setting i have used 240 FSB to test the overclocking of the ram. I made the CPU multiplier to 7.5 to keep the CPU speed stock. i don't know y but when i booted into windows in the CPUZ i seen the ram speed as 225Mhz. where FSB was the same 240. And the CPU was 240x7.5=1800Mhz. Ram voltage was 2.9v.
cpu2402257gh.jpg

mem2402258kf.jpg

Setting 4
In this setting i have used 1:1 for CPU and ram. FSB was set to 240Mhz. and CPU was running 240x9=2160Mhz. Ram was running at 240Mhz with 2.5-3-3-10 2T timings. and Ram voltage was 2.9v.

mem112403bk.jpg

Setting 5
In this setting i have also used 1:1 for CPU and mem. i made the FSB 230 and ram timings were 2.5-3-3-10 1T. CPU speed was 230x9=2070. Ram voltage was 3v. but in the 3dmarks 01 test computer restarted in the 3rd game test so i think it failed in this test. although i managed to run sandra and everest so, will post the scores.

[break=Conclusion]
Conclusion

After all testing and Overclocking i have found that this is a very nice value ram. With awesome price and performance ratio. very few value rams manage to run at CL 2 with stock voltage. The only bad thing about this ram is it doesn't like lose timings. Any lose timings than 2.5-3-3-x and mine system stops booting. So, u can't have insane clocks with lose timings.
I hope u guys wud like this review. i have given too much time to it. :)

Mods if any mistakes are there please make it right.

Cheers for TE.

thats right eddy ..... i also get timings of 225 max with 1T timings and with 2T i can go all the way to 240Mhz with 2.5-3-3-10 .

No pal, thats the difference. I get 242Mhz with 1T not with 2T !

BTW, which chips do the Twinmos sticks use ? What about the Twister series with BH-5, are they available in India, if yes, then how much ?

Also what is the warranty of Twinmos ?

The 256 and the 512 here use Mtec (PowerChip). Not sure abt the Twister series though. Haven't seen anuthing other than the Mtec versions. The warranty is lifetime - meaning, 3~5 yrs.

thats right buddy ..... i was trying to say that with 1T and 2.5-3-3-10 we have reached same speed ..... :)

Good review rahul.
but try to be somewhat more exhaustive in testing (it would help h/w junkies like me and many others)

The max that i could go on quad's rig which had twinmos rams was 247mhz @ 1T, @ 2.9+V and @2.5-4-4-9. (Did not try higher Vdimm since i was working within a certain set of paramaters given to me by master (QUAD), and i did not want to exceed that)

it was windows bootable. but not superpi or prime95 stable.

@ 245mhz , 1T 2.5-4-4-8/9 it was somewhat more stable meaning superpi 1M ran without problems. and the time was around 41.5 ~ 42 secs.(as long as i can recall)

The max read bandwidth in everest that i had reached (provisional) was around 5600+ MB/sec

but i have scaled down the settings when he took delivery, now his m/c should be doing around cpu @ 275(278) thats around 2.5ghz (actual) and since it is using 5:6 ratio his mem should be running @ 226 (228) mhz.

(he could try 9:10 mem /cpu ratio later on)

his current everest read bandwidth must be around 5100 ~ 5300 MB/sec if he uses 2.5-3-3-7/(6)

hi deejay sorry for replying late but i was not on TE for long time and didn't seen this thread till today ..... which motherboard quad is using in my ASUS anything above 228 and its no go on 1T it will run on 1T but will have error on prime95 after ~2 hours ..... every other thing works fine ..... even superpi has no problem but i decided to keep it to 2T .... wats say

Well....Waned to post it here. Saiyan's TwinMOS used to do 221 @ 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.7v on the A8N-E. But it refuses to do 218 at those settings now on the DFI. Only when the timings are loosened to 2.5-4-3-8 does it do even 220 Memtest stable. Have even tried swapping slots - No effect. Strange...

thats really strange ..... i think it sud have done more on DFi than ASUS ...... is it DFi bios issues ..... i mean have u tried different bios ....

the hardware links directory does not have it yaar .. can u link me to the specific thread plz ? thanks. btw i am located at Raipur.

dude i don't know the addess of the dealer for twinmos but these day they are almost available everywhere ..... post it in the general hardware and maybe someone will help ..... else i will say chk out the computer market in ur area and i think u will find it ....

y twinmos is marketing wit their only value segment here .. y da fuk they cant include the twister pro series? :( :O

Guys whats the max BW that you have got with Twinmos CL2.5 M.Tec Chips.

I have maxed out at 6137MB/s
223 2.5-3-3-8-1T CPU @ 273HTT

6137 is the max i have reached for mem read.

I want to increase that Mem read speed more ne suggestions for it.

I will soon try to find out the max with 2.5-4-3-8-1T
