Been running it since about alpha 2 and already looking forward to Natty 11.04 now :D

Linux distros are getting boring these days - nothing to do - no issues to go hunting for solutions or mucking about to fix them...

Agree-about less issues faced on new Gnu/Linux Distros.I had My HP printer/scanner configured automatically.

Although, I find reasons to mess with Gnu/Linux though :).Thanks to Debian =)

The Ubuntu Font Project Seems Interesting.

Glad the scanner was HP. If it was a new Canon scanner, then there is absolutely no way to configure it as SANE has ZERO support for them. Canon Inc. is such a jerk.

Well me too :) Maverick bootup is a bit faster for me, but many others are reporting much slower compared to Lucid.

Depends on what you're comparing it with, but yes it is fast in general...
yes !
I like the improved looks too :)

Every time I leave my computer alone for even a few seconds, it turns off the display and asks for a password to turn it back on. This is really irritating me. I can't find anything to change in the Power options that would stop this. Please help guys.

Ok, I found the solution. The appropriate settings are in preference>Screen saver. Just uncheck the lockout box.

Yes, I was actually getting ready for a lot of copy pasting.

BTW, here is a complex problem for everyone:

Is there any sane way of making Hi-Definition videos play on Ubuntu with my Hardware which is in the Signature?

for nvidia top end cards, there is this "vdpau" thing which is supposed to use less resources to render HD Videos.ie, the video players must be compiled with vdpau support..for eg: xine+vdpau, mplayer+vdpau etcetera...

as regarding Ati, their proprietary driver(catalyst?) may be the option.

Nope, it doesn't work at all. My CPU usage goes upto 90% while watching 720p videos and I have to turn off all visual effects to even do that. I have tried both smplayer and VLC with the same effect.
And forgot to mention, I am on ATI proprietary driver.

I'm not aware of latest in gfx drivers; But Mplayer,Xine packages with VA-API(called XvBA) ATI Support may be available for Ubuntu?

Go through these.(Although I'm unable to show you a binary package of Video Player with VAAPI Support)

[Phoronix] Will AMD's XvBA Beat Out NVIDIA's VDPAU?

Gentoo Forums :: View topic - mplayer ati vaapi

I Think You'll try a Media Player(MPlayer,Xine) Compiled to Support XvBA or VAAPI of ATi.No where near the support Nvidia Linux Drivers gives;Still..

I will try this when I get home today. For the time being, I have seen that the following steps helps a lot:

1. Install the proprietary drivers from Ubuntu. "Administration>Additional Drivers".

2. Turn off all Desktop effects from "Preference>Appearance>Visual Effects

3. Install SMPlayer (Because it is easier to run on C2D processors, using 2 streams)

4. Choose XV (ATI..something something)

5. Pray and Play

I remember seeing some PPAs for VAAPI compiled mpalyer. Dont have ATI card so dont have any links, search in launchpad you will get for sure. BTW XvBA is not completely useful for now, using multiple threads to decode H264 is your best bet.

Guys i have a doubt.I have a amd processor. So should i download the amd64 version or i386 version if i want a 32bit OS ???I mean will i386 version run on my system?

Guys i am not getting the Try linux option.I booted the cd after restarting i get to choose language then the screen goes to install ubuntu. From the youtube videos i have seen,i could not get the same screen with language in the left and the two options with try linux and install linux on the right :(
