Linux ubuntu 8.04 defragment?

hi,
i'm new to linux.is there any way to defragment my ubuntu os like in windows.cos there has been a slight slowing down of my system recently.i've been using it for the past month

its likely not due for disk fragmentation... something you installed or configured maybe?

linux(ext3) fragmentation is negligible as compared to windows(fat/ntfs)

one thing u can do is make a separate home partition.

that will eliminate any fragmentation(if any exists) from occurring to ur os files , when u move data to fro from ur pc.

but frankly , i think u installed something huge/useless startup services , or simply ur hard disk is filling up.

i have been using ubuntu , and my pc starts up in same time as it did the day i installed it.

no slowdowns(fragmentation/registry pollution)

if you are downloading torrents and other big files and moving /deleting etc frequently -please create a different partition of 10-15GB or more /home partition.also there is a little script called for defragmentation "pyfragtools".use it carefully.
