I am using ASUS K40IN Notebook with Intel Core 2 Duo T6670 processor. This notebook is based on Nvidia MCP75 Chipset. Current Latest BIOS Version/Installed Version: 213
When I try to install Ubuntu 9.04 32bit or use try Ubuntu without installing I get the following Error

Bug Int 6: CR2 00f009b8

The same issues are reported in other places as well:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Can't install nor Ubuntu, nor Fedora
Google Translate

Whome should I report this bug??
Its quite annoying as I am unable to install Ubuntu at all. Any fix for this issue?

No issue here :P I am using 64bit with Phenom II X4 :P

why you have installed kernel server ? the 64bit kernel generic is available. I am using it ;)

There are 3 types of kernels generally used. General ( 32bit and 64bit ), Server (32bit supports 4gb+ ram) and 64bit .

I thought you are using kernel-server :P

using generic only

2.6.28-15-generic

the issue is with 32 bit though, lots of ppl seem to have that in diff distors :/

thats wierd, if the problem is with nvidia mcp chipset then why would it throw an "invalid cpu instruction" error int 6?

have you tried passing kernel boot options perhaps to select vesa video (vga=xxx)...

edit: also try disabling hda intel SOUND modules from loading (i think the kernel line is "blacklist=snd-hda-intel") those might also be causing an issue... (you'll have to search for the right option to provide) and also try acpi=off

tried all options. the error message appears immediately after the enter is pressed for installing or when live cd is chosen. AFAIK no moules are loaded at that stage.

I am not sure if the problem is with MCP chipset, looks more like cpu. People have no issues with older processor like T6400 n all.

its nvidia hda audio and not intel, and as I said earlier the error appears/system hangs immediately after any option is chosen so no sound module would have been loaded at that moment.

archish: kernel option are provided before pressing any option in the boot menu... i think you press F6 then add the options to the line starting with "kernel" or something... the reason why i said "disable snd-hda-intel" is coz i found some possibly interesting/relevant links while searching for "nvidia mcp" for linux kernel issues...
