^^Why not ? Every Operating uses its own Kernel , Windows has its own , OSX depends on BSD for that, Linux has Linux kernel [universal to all Linux OS though OS Manufacturer tweak it to provide better results ]

Regards
His point was that it's not Ubuntu's fault if there was a problem with linux kernel and if they had to release older version in repo's, it could have easily happened with ARCH too .

Nope no error.. Arch or other ditro won't push kernel with full testing and tweaks.. Thats why Arch and other popular distro like Mandriva Suse are stuck with .27.4 in testing repos not in update or main repo..

rolling release distros like arch and gentoo got serious question wr.to reliability in mission-critical operations and as server OS.

On Intrepid Ibex (amd64) with a HP Pavilion DV5-1015TX and liking it a lot so far.
Sound volume seems to be rather low at 80% though (when cranked up to 100% though it sounds more or less like it should).

^ I have experienced same .. the top 20% of sound meter has much more effect then the rest of the slider .

The upgrade went great :) 8.10 fixed a lot of issues I had with power management. Haven't notice any bug yet :)

And about the sound issue, i think its due to pulseaudio being the default output. Try changing it to oss or alsa and check.
