Another roadblock, my friend has the i386 version and i need somethin that supports my amd 64 .... gawd i'm going nuts....so back to the 7.04 alternate cd for now :S
I have no idea if they are alive or not, I just got it from net
or there are also professional companies who sell linux distros. to make a living. Look at these guys here GNU/ Linux CD/DVD distributor as well as he has given ample resources to choose from Resources . Please note his courier charges, so it would make sense only if you are asking for something like 5-10 CD/DVDs then it becomes okish I guess.
jus found out people at my college had a lug...gotta check if its still active though.. for now it seems i'm cursed with bad luck...my 7.04 ISO is corrupted :S....10 hrs of a wasted download ... pausing doesn't help
i thought this was going to be easy  ....
About the lug, i think if i can wait for a week i can get it done free, as my friend would return by then (50-100 is a big amount for students like myself ). I have to be patient.....
That is why having a .torrent is cool every piece gets checked, no chance of corrupted downloads
Best of luck with the college lug. Btw why did it take you 10 hrs. to download unless it was the DVD . I usually require 6-7 hrs. for the 650 -700 MB downloads
And good news is i finally got fedora 7 installed and its wonderful ....
Posting from windows coz i still have to get the internet set up ....nearly done with that as well
Turned out the i386 installer works on 64bit computers as well only problem is it doesn't take advantage of it...as of now i'm loving every moment of linux ...
Now for the big question...primary usage of my rig is for music/internet/blogging ... all my music 41+ Gb of it is in 3 other partitions which are all FAT32...i'm guessing its accesible via linux...using the terminal that is...or is it?
Search for ntfs-3g driver & ntfs-config, while ntfs-3g the driver would most probably be in the repository, the ntfs-config I have no idea. Its a GUI-based thing, probably going to make a big post about it in about a week's time alongwith bunch of other userspace utilities as well. I have been planning to do that for a while now but keep getting sidetracked as well
if you mean from feisty fawn to gutsy, then you have 2 ways actually. One is using the net, & doing apt-get dist upgrade, another way more better is to download the tribe 1 alternate installer CD & then do apt-get dist upgrade pointing to the alternate installer CD, then it will install the CD from there. The benefit of doing it this way is that in case if something does go wrong (just an assumption) you can do a fresh-install from the CD itself. Make sure to use a .torrent when downloading it, check the md5sum of it, burn it on very low speeds 4x-8x is a good idea & then finally do a media check after booting from the alternate installer CD. if unsure of anything, disconnect the power from HDD & you will be fine .
